What a hog! I have never seen a bear that big tree. How far did you walk RIp behind the bait?
@feenerproductions8 күн бұрын
That bear was on the ground on the walk in and must’ve treed just before us getting there. I walked with Rip probably 100 yards behind the bait. Thanks for the comment.

Great video. Definitely a big bear. That video as he walked made you feel like you were there! 👍Nice. What was the gun? Marlin in 30-30 maybe?...was hard to tell. Packing it out??? ...On my solo 1995 NH moose hunt i packed it out. I attached the quarters to the pack frame and used a pulley to bring it up off the ground. I squatted and strapped myself in...then pushed myself up. Worked perfectly.... gotta do what you gotta do by yourself. I think each quarter was 100ish pounds.
@feenerproductions10 күн бұрын
Oh, I bet they were! The Marlin was not in a 30-30, I think .444. I pack a lot of them out but will use a jet sled if their close to the truck. Thanks.

Ha never seem a bear that refuses to tree! Also with you right there it still don't run off or tree! Knowing the bear is mostly wore right out. He/she should still go up a tree to rest! Is the bear all good or is there something wrong with it??

This is fairly normal behavior for bears in this area.

Your dogs are really well trained. I've only ever hunted snowshoe hare with beagles and the beagles weren't that easy to call off a hare. Because I don't know that much about Bear Hunting with dogs, that was really interesting. I always thought the bear would go up a tree right away. There were times it just seemed to be walking with them and not trying to attack them. Thanks for the learning experience.

Awesome video man, that looks like an adrenaline rush for sure! Never hunted bear before but have always wanted to over bait to start. I am a confident shot but I don’t know if I would be able to take a shot with someone else’s dogs running around in the mix, Do you only take a shot if the bear trees itself?
@feenerproductions2 ай бұрын
A good amount of bears we take are on the ground, I think if you ever decide to take the step toward a hound hunt you should be mentally ready for such an outcome. Your guide will be there with you and help coach you to the highest percentage shot for success. Great question.

looks like alot of fun. i should have asked on the last vid, but about how many bears do you run a season? keep up the good work. the bear didnt look to happy, but the dogs where.. looks like a chore to get them all back. what kind, breed of dogs are they? looks like thy like a drink after work out like my dog.

We run around 20 or so bears a season, we don’t always catch them as this video shows. We have a variety of breeds, Walkers, Redbones, Plotts.

We have a six acre blueberry field a mile in the woods and it's always hit hard with bear activity, they love those berries. There is a bait site just off the side in the woods. I've always thought the native populations burned and encouraged the blueberry fields as an act to feed the bears and then the bears feed them.
@feenerproductions2 ай бұрын
I bet you’re right. One thing I have learned is no matter how tasty or good your bait is nothing beats natural food. How are the berries Downeast this year?
@downeastprimitiveskills76882 ай бұрын
@@feenerproductions Good crop, almost two weeks early, just enough rain to keep things from being dried and crispy like we've seen for some years, it was great growing conditions last year as well and with a near perfect pollination season this spring I am nearly slipping and sliding while stringing off the field for the rakers.

That kind of forest can be hard to hunt when all the ground noise walking is made. You get deer or Elk that screwed up and wanted to look at your noise to see what is coming. And getting out of a forest like that to your truck after dark is a nightmare! For me hunting a forest like that I am doing it in South Central Alaska as bears are always a danger threat. We don't use anything less than any of the 338 magnums and always larger magnums are better.
