I worked at Toowong Cemetary early 70's dug quite a few graves and did a lot of mowing, nice to see it after all those years, i did notice a lot more trees.

Interesting fact about Toowong cemetery……people living in Toowong are not allowed to be buried there! You know why? They’re still living.🤣

I seem to remember something about the broken column & wreath signifying a life cut short (someone dying before their time).

Interesting place.. I have done a lot of our family history research there. Its amazing what you find. But these days people's ashes are often just cast in the bush or in the sea with nothing to identify that the person even existed. In earlier years, the council never mowed the grass between the graves. It was only cut if a funeral was conducted down that row. It looks much better now. Its difficult to identify where a grave is. eg The council just says a grave is so many rows from a certain tap.

Thanks for taking us along; a bit surprising so close to a busy city; decades back I occasionally wandered for week or so among the islands in the southern end of Moreton bay, (in a sit-in kayak, a rather clumsy one) but mainly without a skirt I preferred to be a bit cooler and risk the occasional swim; that required some cunning ways of carrying some camping gear, and lots of 'shock cord' so that if I 'went in' I would NOT get separated from the kayak or the paddle; South of Peel island there are heaps of short trips between small islands, easily within your ability; against strong wind, you might enjoy a more offset paddle, but there's heaps of shelter; BUT the tidal currents are 'impressive', but you can sprint a bit I see. You've probably noticed all that by now. Thanks for taking your camera along; enjoyable! Maybe some newbies should be advised to train on rather sheltered water, for 10 km minimum, with some sprints deliberately against currents; but when you can average 7km/hr for ten 10km (in my opinion) you might be happy around the south end of the bay, or the north end, but better train over 20km (sheltered) for freedom over the whole bay; wear very bright clothes; very bright paddle blades; power boats are much more dangerous than sharks; in rough conditions power boaties often can't see very well even if they're sober! blah blah blah (now I realize you could write a big book about tiny boats!) enjoy!

OMG 😱 you have just made my Day!! This video was truly Remarkable 🙏🏽!! I'm planning my trip to Japan 🇯🇵 next spring 🌱 and let me tell you I'm going to keep this place in mind!! I'm more interested in visiting quite towns like this then exploring the major city of Tokyo!! Although Osaka is where I'll be staying I gonna want to see this area for myself!! Phenomenal 🔥 Video and Thanks for Sharing!! I enjoyed it so much I decided to subscribe to your channel!! Keep your videos coming well done ✅ from Texas 🤠!!

Thank you for the lovely comment, and thank you for subscribing. I will make a few more videos about other places in Nara. I'm just like you. I'd much rather visit quiet, culturally significant locations, rather than the big cities. Osaka is a perfect location to stay for many day trips in quiet locations.

@@bnewanderer Thanks for telling me at first I thought about staying in Kyoto but that can be a very BZ spot with tourists and locals!! If your traveling takes you to other places what about Fukuoka!! Is it worth exploring 🤔!! Let me know 🙏🏽
@bnewanderer7 ай бұрын
@@staceyk.210 Kyoto is very nice, but if you want to explore, the earlier the better. Fukuoka doesn't quite get as many international tourist, but it is becoming more popular. Beppu, in Oita is a great place to experience hot springs. Mount Aso in Kumamoto is also worth visiting for the volcano.

@bnewanderer Жыл бұрын
Certainly is a beautiful Island. You can find a lot of information here>>> www.townsvillenorthqueensland.com.au/destinations/magnetic-island/ As for the AirBnB, I'm not sure about that. I stayed at a lovely Bed 'n Breakfast called 'True North', located in Horseshoe Bay, There are a lot of cool nature walks on that end of the island.

Hi, I've commented before I found out my great great grandfather Eric Oluf Olsen Rostad is buried here. He passed in 1920! So long ago. Plus the grave is still there. Which I find pretty amazing, I am going to visit him very very soon, I visited my Dad's parents (my grandparents) in Pinaroo on Saturday. Something about the history plus the peacefulness is really nice. I can't can't put it into words. The way we present the stones after death. Really incredible to see what people did during their life on the stones, I'm also looking at getting into the funeral industry. A great industry, they're dying for people to apply (no pun intended) P.S how are you feeling mate?
@bnewanderer2 жыл бұрын
Oh cool! That's awesome. I'm feeling pretty good, thank you. I hope you're well. I'm hoping to do another video in Dutton Park/ South Bank Cemetery soon (if work permits....busy lately).
