was in Drumheller two weeks ago with the family, stayed in a cute airb&b, ate at Yavis and WHIFS, went through the DIno Museum and ended a Barneys ! this was with six adults and a five year old.....

I worked on campus for 25 years in Campus Security/ Dept. Campus Safety. I walked everywhere both above ground and below ground, through every building and met people from all over the world. It was the best job I ever had. Thank you U of S.

Not really a replica. Most historians accept that the Santa Maria was either a Portuguese-style nau, or an Italo-Iberian carrack, having even ruled out the caravela redonda, which, with its shallower draft and narrower beam, was actually faster, but too small to serve as flagship (Columbus' second ship, La Pinta, is supposed to be one of these). The ship here, originally built during Expo 1986 in Vancouver (according to its builders, entirely by hand), then shipped to Edmonton, most closely resembles a rather fanciful version of a 16th or even early 17th-century galleon, though much smaller. The original Santa Maria did not survive the return voyage; it was commonly, and anachronistically depicted as a galleon in historical artwork of the later centuries, as this type had become, by then, the pre-eminent long-distance commercial, military, and exploration, sailing vessel. While the ship today yet retains the name 'Santa Maria' (chiseled on the bow, another anachronism), as well as the Angry Housecat and Two-Headed Turkey Buzzard of Castile-Leon (or the Kingdom of Serbia, we're not sure), the theme of the display is now Pirate. There’s a stairway inside the big T. rex, to an observation platform in its mouth. Pretty cheap as I recall - and a nice view between the teeth!
