To (somewhat) answer your question regarding the apparently 'lazy' take-off, there are many factors that dictate how an aircraft departs an airport. There are what's called Standard Instrument Departures which are pre-planned routes which aircraft must follow for safety and/or noise abatement reasons; these will dictate, to an extent, the climb rate. As you can appreciate, the A380 is a big old heavy beast so it's not as spritely as smaller airliners. Then there is what airlines refer to as a 'Cost Index'. A CI is a calculation used to take into account the relationship between fuel costs and time costs. A faster climb may increase fuel cost (and also usually generates more noise) so the airline will try to balance all these factors while also considering passenger comfort. Hope this helps!

Very much so! Thanks for your explaination… I do love knowing more about planes! Glad we weren’t going to putt around the coast all the way to Singapore 😂

Loved your video. We did the same flight in November 2024. We also booked Premium Economy, and I was really excited as I was going to have a window seat. I will always try to get an aisle seat on a long haul flight. Sadly (just kidding) I lost the window seat - we ended up in the middle seat right at the back of the cabin 🤤, in Business 😀. I am just as unco as you with the luggage tags, so one of the perks was one of Qantas staff did it for me at check in (which is with a real person). But of course no help with the loo doors, which I also struggle with. We came back from LAX (it was a round the world flight) in Premium Economy. While not as good as business (naturally) my own view is it is comfortable enough to justify the extra dollars, but the step up to Business is not. It is about $5000 extra (which can be used on better accommodation at your destination). We upgraded with points, which I think is justified (use them or lose them), but I wouldn’t spend the extra dollars for Business unless I became really wealthy
@aliceinwonderland8926Күн бұрын
Thanks for watching! I appreciate it! Business must be nice, I am yet to experience it… hopefully soon! Saving up all my points ;) but as you mentioned, is quite a bit more exy… Imagine First Class! 🤣
@brontewcatКүн бұрын
@@aliceinwonderland8926 It was very nice and a considerable cut above premium economy. However, as I said I am not sure it is worth the extra $5000 or so. I would have to win multiple millions of dollars to justify First😉 As you were in the Business lounge, but flying premium economy I assume you or your travel partner have a few frequent flyer points. I only get in normally because my partner is a gold member😉. He has to fly to the US two or three times a year, and his boss now pays for premium economy so he accumulates them easily. I don’t fly very often, so I am still only a bronze member. Keep going with those points. If you do have enough points it is worth buying premium economy and applying for an upgrade. I will look for your other episodes. Summer the UK and Europe is so much nicer than November (although London does it’s Christmas lights well - very Love Actually.

Oh I could so travel with you. Loved your video. I’m crazy early for flights, I relax more once there. Have a long flight booked Melbourne-Brisbane-Taipei-Toronto, about 26 hrs flying time. Eva air though. Longest Qantas was 33 hrs - Mel-Syd-Singapore-KL-Bahrain-Damascus-Orly-London. OMG it was when entertainment was via a projector and the bulkhead was where you viewed the film on.

Great flight vlog - or should that be a flog? And Qantas Premium Economy looks excellent. Those airline white waste/sick bags are brilliant for the flight debris - I end up using them to put all the wrapping, plastic bits and so on that ends up in my seat pocket or floor area on longhaul flights.
@aliceinwonderland8926Ай бұрын
Thanks for watching… A that’s a good tip for the sick bags… I hate the mess some people leave behind on flights. I just hope they replace them for anyone who gets queasy 😛

Great video. I'm off to Sydney next Christmas with my family using Quantas and premium economy. Did you like that seat at the back? Do you get full recline? I like the idea of no one behind you, so you can fully recline when you like. We will be flying back from Perth, which will be 17hrs non stop!
@aliceinwonderland89262 ай бұрын
Thanks for watching! Yes, the seat has a good recline, it looks tight when others recline but, it’s actually okay…and if you’re travelling on the A380… it has a smaller cabin upstairs. I have also done the Perth to London direct on QF9 and it is good… Premium is stuck between business and economy. I suggest going forward to use the business class toilets! Have a safe trip!

When stopping off in Singapore, is it the same plane and seat you get back on? Essentially, it's 1 flight but, presumably, have to get off whilst refuelling takes place?
@brontewcatКүн бұрын
@@howardalexander0621The answer is yes. I did the QF1 in November. You have to get off at Singapore and take all your luggage with you, but when you get back on you go back to your seat. Incidentally there is a new crew, and it is British. Apparently they are cheaper than the Australian crew:(who were lovely). So the Australian crew fly back (or wherever their new flight is to) from Singapore and you have Brits (who are lovely also). It was cute the new crew saying ‘Welcome aboard’ when you have already been on the flight for 7 hours.
@howardalexander0621Күн бұрын
@brontewcat thank you. I'm pleased that the British crew was lovely....I'm from England 😃 I was in Oz & NZ late 2023 and flew Qantas for internal flights and Sydney to Wellington. I loved their safety video, which was still the Centenary one. "....no smoking on board.....including e-cigarettes, whatever they are." 😄 I'll be back, one day.
@brontewcatКүн бұрын
@@howardalexander0621 I was totally intrigued by the fact that some of British crew didn’t live in or near London. Instead when they got off the plane they were travelling a home to various parts of the UK. The flight attendant looking after me was going home to Chester I think.
