First half of a song speaks about man who is awake in the middle of the night, he can't fall asleep bc he wants his woman back. At that moment Michael is NOT thinking about Apollonia. At that moment Apollonia is nowhere on his mind. At that moment Michael is thinking about Kay " Kay, every night here in Sicily all I dream about is my wife and children and how I lost them. Don't dread me any more Kay, I love you ".... says Michael to Kay later in the movie. Only at the end of the song, when lyrics of the song said " What I thirst for water she thirst for water " he remembered her. Thirsty for love means he needs sex. Thirsty for water means YOUNG. That is why he remembered her, he remembered a child he married....who he had to marry bc he was sexually eract since there was no sex before marriage in Sicily. Song is called B Terra and is proof that Michael only had physical act of love with Apollonia. He loves her sexually... We call that fu** ing but that would be too vulgare for a movie. He didn't feel anything for her in his heart which is why he was thinking about Kay while being married to her Michael:" I spent many nights in this room thinking of you " Kay :" Than you got married " Michael " I still thought about you ".. says Michael to Kay in a same room he had sex with Apollonia. He didn't care about her which is why he chased her at the hight of the danger, conned her into marrying him in the middle of the mafia war and killed her with the wedding. Michael takes off his glasses and put his face in his hand. That is a signature Michael's gesture he made throughout entire trilogy when he is shocked....ooh dear God moment. Mary storms out . Michael puts on glasses and opens his mouth.... in the interview Coppola explained that is a sign Michael is displeased. He hated he had to have that conversation. It wasn't emotional moment but attempt to convince Mary not to sleep with Vincent. Michael doesn't even have quilty conciences over her death. " Father I betrayed myself, I betrayed my wife, I killed men, I had men killed I killed my brother "... That is what Michael thinks about Apollonia...... that she is a sin beyond redemption, as bad as killing as his brother. That is what Apollonia is.... a child, physical act of love aka sex, someone Michael deliberately put in danger and killed her for sex. But she wasn't sweet little innocent child..... Apollonia married Michael for money so the irony of life
