Hi Wayne - thanks for your comment, much appreciated! I think I replaced that set up and changed it out - have a look at the following 3 part video series I did with wiring diagram - kzbin.info/www/bejne/oZK7aKmeo716ZtUsi=bPNn7UjoA76LdzWT I still have my twister - need to get it out and about again (just the weather here in the UK!) just drop me a line if you need anything else - good luck! cheers Stuart

Hey mate, did you work out what caused this and how to fix it? My twister lost connection today, damn scary!
@Stuied404 жыл бұрын
Hi MadMazda, this is the original first edition Twister. That means that it has the single receiver aerial and 2mm GPS puck. Basically, bad news! I changed out the GPS puck for a 4mm one (available on ebay as a straight replacement) and installed a frsky X8R twin diversity receiver. The twister transmitter is also a weak link and not reliable. So, I connected the X8R to a Tarannis transmitter - now works perfectly!

Stuart Downing cheers for the detailed reply. I was looking around the net for info last night. Managed to find out mine is know as the big shark gps, and managed to do a offline update to the firmware. Still concerned, but I’ll see what happens today! Lol

I used to have a quattro X, great copter I am sorry I sold it.I used to run mine with oversize battery in it of 4000 mah, it wouldn't fit in the battery bay completely, but you just leave the battery hatch open and put an elastic band over the GPS antenna and the hatch, holds battery in fine.With this set up, should get about 20 min flights.These bigger batteries go up to 6000mah, so should get like 25 min flight out of such a battery.Would recommend you try! I getting a Bayangtoys X16 soon, hope it is at least as good as my Quattro X was.I have seen a few go on ebay for like £40, what a bargain eh? At that price I would definitely get another. Rob
@Stuied405 жыл бұрын
Hi Rob, I actually have 2 of these - both still running! I must do another video with the modified one - I have put an OSD in it which works really well. They do have their issues though which is why I think they weren't very popular - the two main issues I found was the transmitter and GPS. When I modified mine and installed a frsky receiver and connected it to my tarranis is has behaved fantastically with huge range as well! I changed out the GPS for a better version and again huge improvements. Check out my other Twister videos! Cheers Stuart

@@Stuied40 Hello there, Terrible news I'm afraid.I was flying my Quattro X which I brought back from a friend in local park, when suddenly it lost all power in the air, flipped over and fell about 200ft onto concrete.Obviously smashed to pieces, I am devastated. I don't know what went wrong, my friends say there is a signal being put out to down drone's - is this legal? If this is the case then when I get another ( I will replace it either new or 2nd hand of ebay) I should perhaps consider converting it to 35mhz as no one bothers with this band anymore, so I won't be paranoid about my next one randomly falling out of the sky. It is a great drone when all is going well. I will be getting a small drone also to zip around with, maybe another Bugs 6 or perhaps a Bugs 3 mini. So what's your opinion as to why my drone crashed? I noticed the Xt60 connector was disconnected on the ground after crash, this could have been either the cause of the crash, or a result of it. Definitely getting another thnough. Rob
@Stuied405 жыл бұрын
@@robertkelly5515 Hi Robert, I'm sorry to hear that! I had a large Align M690L fall out of the sky just as yours did. Upon further investigation, I found that the battery was at fault - poor quality battery. Basically, I learnt the hard way that you get what you pay for in battery terms! I think realistically that your battery was probably to blame. However, looking back to your last post, you use a bigger battery - was there a chance that it moved and pulled itself free of the xt60? - The other reason could be due to a faulty ESC this can cause the drone to flip. I don't (yet) buy that signal jammers are being used to down drones as the cost to do so is uneconomical - unless you were flying near Gatwick airport!! You may be able to replace your damaged frame, the cheerson cx20 is an exact replica and all parts are pretty much interchangeable. It would also give you an opportunity to check to make sure that there are no loose connections. Let me know how you get on. Cheers Stuart
@robertkelly55155 жыл бұрын
@@Stuied40 Yes, I agree I reckon it was the battery.I was using the standard size at the time, but I noticed this battery wasn't giving a very long flight time, like the low battery alarm would sound after only a few mins of flight.So either the power just went or it disconnected.(Don't like the XT60 adaptor now) I would like to get another quattro soon, but sooner I will be getting a Bugs 3 mini to Zip around with, it's the cheaper option.Plus my mate wants to swap the crashed Quattro for his Bugs 3 drone (which was mine originally) the Bugs 3 is a classic reliable workhorse, cheap too. I have been looking at the Bugs 2 (gps) and also the Husban H501s if I can get either of these cheap of ebay, I will be doing OK.I was going to install the Quattro internals into a generic drone frame of ebay, but if my mate wants it (and I can't think why he would do such a swap!) I will swap the crashed drone for the Bugs 3. Still I will miss the Quattro a lot, so will probably end up getting another - maybe it would be wise to install a parachute recovery system, just in case. At £100 new it is a costly model to replace!!!

@Stuied407 жыл бұрын
Hey English Turbines, Thanks for your comment. Yes it is 5.8g and to be fair it has been performing very well. The problem (entirely my fault) was the trees and attenuation of the signal. 1280mhz does sound the way to go for me, as everywhere I can fly there are either lots of trees or the Pennines! Do you have any suggestions for the Kit? Cheers Stuart

Hey Richard - thanks for stopping by! Have a look at this video which may be useful - kzbin.info/www/bejne/oZK7aKmeo716ZtU In terms of the gimbal, the only one I would recommend is the Quanum Q-2D from HobbyKing. I recommend this because a. it fits perfectly and b. very little prop in shot. However, a cheaper alternative is the Walkera White Plastic Version G-2D available from ebay. This will require some small modifications. If you still need a diagram etc, let me know which transmitter and gimbal you are going to buy and I will send one over to you. If you need any help - just give me a shout! Cheers Stuart

No, this Devil's Punchbowl is just south of Mono Lake on the east side of Hwy 395 in eastern California. It's near the town of Lee Vining. The old devil must have lots of punchbowls! There is another one on the Pacific Coast up in Oregon.

Though it won't be with the Litchi app, next week I'm going to take off from the rim and fly down into the Devils Punchbowl. Expecting my altitude to be negative most of the time! Kinda scary.

@jakeandmar37928 жыл бұрын
Hi John! Are you going to the punch bowl near Crested Butte Colorado?
@Stuied408 жыл бұрын
Hi John / Jake & Mar - Thank you all for your comments. The main reason I chose this site was because of it's undulations and I wanted to see how Litchi dealt with conversion from GE to Way points. As John mentions, I expected to see a '-' value from the take off way point (40M) when the ground falls away especially at way points 7 through 12. So, from WP1 to WP7 the ground drops by 13M (from Google Earth) My theory then is that with no correction the P4 should be at 53M - Litchi therefore makes the adjustment to 32M @ WP7. But what is this 32M altitude relating to? Is it just 32M above ground level - in which case what happened to my 40M set altitude. As the ground drops away by 13M should I have see a '-' value of say -13M at WP7? I'm still confused!! I have plotted another route in a different location and one of the WP's is 0M - does this mean the P4 will crash into the ground?? Regards Stuart
@BadOldBuzzard8 жыл бұрын
My thinking is this. All altitudes are relative to the elevation of the take off point, which is 0 altitude. So, if you take off and fly lower than the home point elevation, your altitude will be negative!
@Stuied408 жыл бұрын
Thanks John!
@jakeandmar37928 жыл бұрын
My guess is that when you told Google earth 40m that is the consistent height of your path. Litchi took those calculations and plotted it's path. Since ground is probably lower there on waypoints 5 - 13 (than home alt #1) you will get lower altitudes but it should be around 40m from that specific location.

Thanks Jake & Mar!

Nice video. Thanks for sharing. Just got my P4. Wondering when you start your quad up in the hills how do you calculate the height when using way points ? If you're 200 feet up hill and want to be at 20 feet above the trees ( let say the trees are at 90 feet height ) at the ground level... Thanks in advance !
@Stuied408 жыл бұрын
Hi Pierre - thanks for your comments! I have not had a chance to try that yet but I am assuming that you have to take heights into account. By that I mean, in the above video, the hill is around 400m but it is a gradual incline. So, when I set off the altitude is 0M but in reality I am 400M) So when I set off over the edge the altitude suddenly increases up to the 400M mark. Therefore, if I were to fly way points, I am assuming that I would have to take the various heights into account - including returning it back up the gradual incline to the home position! I think I will fly it around and take note of the heights first, then send it off on a mission with those heights. If anyone knows the actual answer to this please post below. Regards Stuart

@Stuied408 жыл бұрын
+Pantherrilla Productions - I'm Back!! I will be uploading a new video taken a couple of weeks ago. I love this thing - the build quality is stunning. The electronics including cables however, are not! I have replaced every cable including esc's. You will need to replace the GPS also, unless you have the one with the yellow connector. Most of us have replaced the GPS with the dual GPS/Glonass unit. Pros - Build Quality Cons - All cables and electronics. Battery life can be an issue - expect around 10 minutes on a 6s 10000mAh battery. Gimbals - Don't buy an Align gimbal - any type - they are all bad! Parts availability - they are becoming hard to get hold of...you will need a stock of consumables (esc's / motors etc) My crash still remains a bit of a mystery. There are two likely causes: 1. Battery cell or total battery failure 2. Total power failure - connection from the pcu? I stripped it all back and re-wired it. Don't buy cheap batteries!! Make sure you update all firmware to the latest versions - otherwise the components wont work together. Cheers Stuart

+Stuart Downing yeah i know about the bad quality of wiring.. on my M480, out the box GPS wiring, all wires came un-done from solder point, replace with new Dual..APS-M still doesn't detect GPS, i have all three models now, so i put the new Dual GPS on my M470 works like a charm, but it drifts bad, did all the calibration several times, since the PC software doesn't have the GYRO calibration, besides the GPS calibration, how can i get that drift out, this thing does not hold position in GPS mode @ all

@koneent8 жыл бұрын
+Stuart Downing yeah but in your previous vids, it's not drifting well it seems that way, from what i've read, this has something to do with the GYRO not being leveled,so it's constantly trying to level itself..... like in DJI/CC3D/ETC, you have a GYRO calibration in the software and then when your ready to fly, you do the GPS calibration..Align is missing the GYRO calibration in the software, i'm wondering is this feature in the Bluetooth version...let me know when you upload & i'll check it out

Where do you buy new batteries? My Quattro x seems to have a stupid connector and I can't find any batteries that would fit. It's very annoying. Thanks
@Stuied408 жыл бұрын
+Jeyo McNugget Hi Jeyo, I changed the Deans Connector to the XT60 connector which most battery manufacturers seem to use. You can get these on Ebay for a few pounds. Alternatively, you can buy a deans to XT60 connector - again from Ebay. The best batteries I have found are the Overlander 2900 mAh which fit perfectly in the Quattro - expect to pay around £30 for these off of Ebay. Hope this helps! Regards Stuart
@jeyomcnugget95848 жыл бұрын
+stuart downing thanks for the reply, I was able to buy a 2700mah battery off Amazon, the same as the stock battery. I would have bought a bigger battery but I don't know what other battery's I can charge with the stock charger that came with the quad. The battery has an xt60 connector but I also bought a adapter of Amazon. Should solve the problem.
@Stuied408 жыл бұрын
Hi Jeyo, when you start to get more into it, I would suggest that you get yourself a 'proper' charging unit. Something like the Skymax from HK is one such way (and cheap too) these chargers will help you keep your batteries in optimal condition and allow you to put them into storage charge when you are not flying. If you need any help, give me a shout! Cheers Stuart
@jeyomcnugget95848 жыл бұрын
+stuart downing hello again Stuart, would you be able to recommend a decent charger that is relatively cheap? I will certainly check out the one you mentioned on hobbyking but is there any others you would recommend, I have just bought a gimbal so il not be able to buy anything until next week. I have also got a battery checker on the way so I can keep my batteries in optimal condition with the charger I have. Would you also be able to recommend a pair of props as I'm looking for new ones, mine are a bit banged up from a crash I had a while ago. I was thinking of the dji self tightening ones but they are very expensive! I suppose them being good quality would be good for vibrations though. Thanks.
@Stuied408 жыл бұрын
Hi Jeyo, I use the imax B6 Lipo Charger & an X series from Hobby King. The imax B6 starts around £13 (but you need an additional power supply) to around £25 with built in charger - be careful though there are lots of copies around - try to get an original one if you can. Fast Lad sell the DJI (9450) props for around £12 per pair - they are well worth the investment giving better flight times, lift and security. If you can wait, Banggood have the props for £6 per pair. Hope this helps. Cheers Stuart

Hi Stuart really nice video I picked up a Quattro x last weekend I have done 1 flight with it had to edit the landing lol are these quadcopters as bad as everybody makes out there are a lot of videos about it losing control Thank you Sarah
@Stuied408 жыл бұрын
+Sarah Dodson Hi Sarah, Glad you enjoyed the video. I would advise you to watch as many of the Twister Videos as you can - and learn as much as you can on the things that have gone wrong for people. Briefly, I would make the following observations: 1. The calibration process is absolutely critical. Do it every time you fly - even if it's in the same place. I would suggest that 90% of all fly aways are caused by not doing this properly. Watch the lights to make sure it has calibrated correctly. If in doubt - do it again! 2. Leave the Quattro on the ground for a couple of minutes after the satellite lock has been established - this should help to make sure you have the best satellite lock available where you fly. Always fly in an open area. 3. The GPS receiver is (in my opinion) not the best. It's very easy to change from the 2mm device to a 4mm device - the 4mm receivers cost around £3 on ebay and take around 5 minutes to install but will give you approximately 10 satellite lock. This makes it very stable and will reduce fly aways. 4. When you have flown it a few times and are confident (and more importantly - enjoying it!) - I would strongly suggest that you replace the transmitter and receiver - I know it's expensive (especially after the initial outlay) and a bit tricky but the difference is immense. I had a yawing issue with mine which disappeared after I got a new transmitter. The set up also gives you more range and a much stronger / more reliable connection. Hope this helps! Drop me a line if I can help any further - don't forget to subscribe as I will be bringing out more Twister videos as soon as the weather changes!! Regards Stuart

Hi Stewart. I have same twister and was gutted to find I can't use my iPhone to monitor etc or watch recording via the gopro cos it is 2.4 ghz. But in your video u have FPV via gopro ? How ? I'm deaf and there is no subtitles for what you were saying etc ? I have twister and gopro 3plus hero. Would love to have fpv so I can fly it via that route Do u use the gps lock during flight ?
@Stuied409 жыл бұрын
Rc Vulcan Hi Vulcan! Okay, you cannot use the wifi on the gopro for live video. If you do, your twister will fly off uncontrollably (I know I have done it!!) So, make doubly sure it is switched off. If you look to the right hand side of the gopro, you will see a black and yellow cable. This takes the video out signal from the gopro to a transmitter. The transmitter sends a video signal to the FatShark goggles which I use for FPV. Go to ebay and search on FPV in Radio Control and you will see a myriad of 5.8ghz transmitters and receivers. The Immersion RC models are generally the best in terms of quality but they are expensive. As an example From ebay UK: Boscam TS5823 Transmitter (I have just bought one of these) eBay item number: 321777178682 £11.87 Free P&P Hobby King Quanum Goggles eBay item number: 121693938305 £31.95 Free P&P 5.8ghz receiver around £20 Free P&P You will need some additional bits and bobs (such as a battery for the goggles and antennas) but all in all you could spend as little as £70 - £80 Almost forgot - GPS lock - generally I only fly in manual mode. I do use GPS when putting my goggles on or if I want to pan around at height. It's quite well known that the gps isn't that reliable on the twister! If you need any assistance, just give me a shout! Cheers Stuart

50p 10p 50p 10p. Gives you a bit of confidence in the fail safe RTH. I noticed it was quite far along the coast before it went daft. Could it just be the distance from the transmitter that caused it? Also have you updated the firmware on it yet? I joined to cx20 group and they all go on about it but I'm a bit hesitant in doing so. The way I see it is if ain't broke don't fix it.
@Stuied409 жыл бұрын
James Barkshire Hi James, I'd already flown further than that earlier on - I have a feeling that in addition to the failed calibration, I have a switch issue on the transmitter. I'll keep an eye on that one. I'm not sure that we can update the Twister firmware - the cx20 flight controller is different to ours. Also, you would need a software program to run it on?? Interesting that when you think about it, there is not that much info on the Twister out there or from the manufacturers! Perhapse we should start our own facebook page!! Cheers Stuart

James Barkshire Hi James, no problem! It may have changed quite a bit if you haven't been for a while, the dunes have disappeared due to errosion and the storms a year or so ago. Cheers Stuart

hi stu, nice to see you out and about again,i took mine out on the weekend and after calibration one of my rear propeller stopped working and now just twitches and my copter just gives off a constant bleep,i dont know if its the motor or somthing else,but off back to the shop tomorrow,would you be able to offer insight thanks alot

stevie boi Hi Stevie, Don't like the sound of that! We have seen this before, and it could be a few things unfortunately: 1. Bad Motor - needs replacing 2. Corrupt output from the electronic speed controller / or speed controller faulty - needs replacing 3. Your Lipo battery (or a cell of the lipo) maybe faulty. Check the voltage of each cell with a balance tester; and/or 4. You may not be getting the correct voltage to the flight controller; and/or 5. You may not be getting a digital signal out of the flight controller to the esc's If you get a chance have a look at the following video to see if you issue is simular: Cheers & Keep us posted - it's how we learn! I have Quattro and gopro 3 hero plus. Can I use the gopro as fvp ? How ?
@Stuied409 жыл бұрын
Hi RC Vulcan!, Yes you can indeed use the GoPro for FPV - here is a basic list of what you will need (you may already have some of this equipment): 1. GoPro & Gimbal - gimbal can be either fixed or powered - the Walkera G-2D or Hobby King Quanum Q-2D would be perfect for the Quattro X (around £60 on ebay) 2. You will need an FPV transmitter mounted on the Quattro to transmit the signal from the GoPro to a receiver. The transmitter in the UK can only be 25mW to remain legal. It should operate on 5.8 GHz to avoid any interference with the 2.4 GHz radio controller. NB: Do not use the GoPro wifi setting to an ipad etc as this will result in severe interference and you will loose control of the Quattro. (Immersion RC transmitter around £50 on ebay) 3. You will need a receiver. You will choose either goggles or a screen. FatShark goggles are a great choice or if you prefer a screen then the Flysight BlackPearl is the one to go for. (It will cost between £100 - £300 depending upon which choice you go for, and either new or second hand equipment) 4. You will need a connector cable to connect the GoPro to the FPV Transmitter. (£4 on ebay) 5. You will need JST plugs for power and soldering skills! 6. As an option you can also purchase spironet antennas for better reception (Immersion RC £40 per pair) 7. Basic Setup : a. Install the FPV transmitter on the Quattro (NB: you will need to set up a transmission channel) - I have mine to the rear attached to one of the legs via cable ties. b. From the 12V power on the bottom of the quad, wire in the supply to the FPV transmitter - you will need to solder additional cable as the supplied cables will not reach. c. From the FPV transmitter, solder the yellow and black cables to the yellow and black cables to the GoPro connector cable. d. Always plug in the GoPro adapter before switching it on - this will put it into tv out mode. e. Always make sure you have the FPV antenna connected before powering up - if not this will fry the transmitter! f. Tune in the receiver to the transmission channel - most are automatic so no drama here! NB: If you want to power the GoPro from the 12V supply you will need to transform this down to 5V - failure to do so will fry you GoPro! I just use the internal GoPro battery and take a spare with me. And that's about it!! If you need and more help, just let me know! Regards Stuart

+stuart downing I'm thinking about putting FPV on my Cheerson CX20, would you be able to give some links to the bits you brought?
@Stuied409 жыл бұрын
+Ross RS Hi Ross, all you need to do is type the description of the item above (points 1-6) into Ebay and it will find the parts you need. A great source of parts for the Cheerson CX20 (and the items above) is Banggood.com If you cannot find something specific - please give me a shout! Cheers Stuart

+stuart downing Would this work as the transmitter? Also, what would I use to power it, a separate battery or connect it to the LiPo one? www.ebay.co.uk/itm/FPV-5-8g-25mW-UK-LEGAL-Mini-FT951-Transmitter-TX-ImmersionRC-Fatshark-5-8Ghz-/231733595131?hash=item35f4660bfb:g:LOYAAOSwDNdVpNxk
@Stuied409 жыл бұрын
+Ross RS Hi Ross, that would work - no problem. Also get some JST plugs such as www.ebay.co.uk/itm/JST-Plug-and-Socket-connectors-Pre-Wired-150mm-leads-2pin-Red-and-Black-Wire-/111695647837?var=&hash=item1a0194545d:m:m7DHif1gmJ0AXPelcJ-q6DQ You can then plug this in to the power port at the bottom of the quad and solder the ends to the connector to the transmitter. Also, because of its size, get a set of Short Cloverleaf antennas: www.ebay.co.uk/itm/5-8ghz-FPV-Cloverleaf-Antenna-SET-Circular-Polarized-RP-SMA-SMA-Connector-LHCP-/252020484595?var=&hash=item3aad9769f3:m:mMvRfbJmWBpCpTcqoEiPsvg I now use a similar set up on my quattro x and can mount everything on the bottom of the quad rather than the legs. No need to use a separate battery, as weight is everything - most of my batteries are 2900mAh and with all the kit, will give around 12 minutes. Cheers Stuart

Hi I just got a transmitter and reciever for my quattro x to try some fpv,and was wondering if i could wire the power for my transmitter straight to one of the 12v connectors on the bottom of the unit,i will be using the boscam ts 351,as u can probably guess im a newbie,any help would be epic, Thanks
@Stuied409 жыл бұрын
Hi Stephen, Yes that would work fine for the Boscam. You will probably need a JST connector to make the connection - if you get a powered gimbal it's worth getting some anyway for future use. Ebay is a good source as you can get sets of 10 for less than £5 I look forward to your videos in the near future - any help just give me a shout! Cheers Stuart

Hi, I've just got myself a Quattro-X and would love to go down the FPV route. Can you tell me what gimbal you are using and where I can get it from? And what else do I need to fly FPV? Many Thanks, Rob.
@Stuied4010 жыл бұрын
Hi Robert, I have the Quanum Q-2D gimbal from Hobby King. I understand though that the Walkera G-2D gimbal is identical (you can get these on ebay much quicker and cheaper!) Have a look at some of my other videos, the comments go into some detail around getting the gimbal setup. You will also need a transmitter and receiver and something to see the video with. This must be 5.8ghz and no more than 25 milliwatts to remain UK legal. You will need a camera such as a GoPro or SJ4000 (non-wifi version). I would advise that you purchase the very best equipment you can afford. Flying FPV is not easy to begin with and if you have poor quality equipment it could make the experience worse. Stick with the top brands such as GoPro, FatShark, Immersion RC. Always remember to keep any source of interference away from the Quattro especially Wi-Fi & BlueTooth signals. Good Luck!! Cheers Stuart

Thanks Stuart! I already have the GoPro, but will check out your other videos for the rest of the equipment I will need! Rob

Hey Stuart, hope you're doing OK and haven't had any more dodgy moments! I have my Twister now :D I wanted to ask about the data port into the quad - how do I use this? Is there software I can download and if so what can I alter?
@Stuied4010 жыл бұрын
Hi Nick, Great news about your Twister - Can't wait to see the videos! The port is a bit of a mystery! I cannot find any info about it at all. We would need to know what program to open up any of the data in. I will try and find out though and get back to you. Cheers Stuart
@MrNickdraper10 жыл бұрын
Thanks Stuart! I did ask with the importers and manufacturers too - deafening silence ha. I know on the opensource version of the Cheerson and the Quanum it's for running the autopilot stuff, and I know we don't have that flight controller, but I was just wondering if there were any little bits and pieces we could do with it.
