Diesel is low pressure combustion it doesn't have the same noise levels in the exhaust as a petrol that has much higher pressure and hotter exhaust. That's another reason why you can't have pops and bangs with a diesel. Low pressure, less heat. If you want more noise, remove all the noise insulation elements from the engine bay. Diesel by default is already magnitudes louder than a petrol.

The sound wasn’t there due to it being a diesel, if it was a petrol vehicle it burns the residue from the petrol making it bang and pop… that’s the only reason. I am fitting a cherry bomb to a bmw 120d and it won’t bang or pop just be grunty and a bit more beefed up! It does improve performance a little I believe though
