I prefer having the hud on since getting rings and score without an indication of how much of either you have looks weird to me time and lives aren't as important but they're still nice to have aren't usually in the way i'm personally only ever going to turn off the hud when i'm trying to make a cutscene since that's when i'd say the hud gets in the way
