Pilot disorientation. Also potentially a bit tail heavy or excessive elevator movement. When left alone the model was absolutely fine but it was pitching strongly with pilot input. Pilot flew towards the sun and got disoriented. Sunglasses will not help much at all with direct sun. At 1.27 shortly before the crash sequence begins you can see there is no pilot input and the model is stable and settled, if a little nose down. The actions thereafter are classic for disorientation. To be fair to the pilot, during and in the immediate aftermath it's sometimes difficult to know exactly what happened, and blame can be apportioned where it's not due. I'd give anyone the chance to get home and look at the damage and review the situation and then perhaps take the view "I messed up!" Regarding gyros, they're a tool and can be a great one, but they are also another source of problems, either in set-up, or reliability. A "gyro off" switch is essential even with a known reliable set-up.

Bit of a risk flying that with other aircraft flying, that said a foamy has as much right to fly as a big expensive model. Personally I'd wait and politely ask for 15 mins of clear air. Secondly did the foamy guy announce his take off? If he did clearly enough then the Ares pilot is at fault for flying through. If he didn't then the foamy guy is at fault. Communication is everything! Depends on the club really, busier clubs and sites need proper comms at all times.

Flying electric ARFs and calling yourself an RC pilot is the same as buying an honorary degree and calling yourself educated.

Bro, National didn't have these particular aircraft when your dad flew for them!! Matter of fact, National never had a single 737 ever. Also, this is the Freewing Foam ready to fly model. What part did you build? I'm very curious?

What I remember most about the old string planes was spending 45 minutes trying to get them started and 5 minutes flying them.😁 Never did get used to that noise.

I did this in the 80's, it was fun and very exciting. The club I was in was at St Ives in Sydney, I think its still there. I loved to see the big pattern flying aircraft with big motors. There was always a great smell of castor oil, meth fuel and nitro. Then there were the diesel engines on the speed aircraft that ran on ether. Such a long time ago now

Nothing like a U-turn take off with a tail dragger to create a little "pucker factor". Glad there was no damage. That could have been ugly.

You never had any radio signal control loss because of those metallic fences ? I think it acts like a faraday cage ! I see in the video that your radio was occulted by this metallic post at the time it happened ! Just wondering because we had 2 guys at our field that had a temporary loss of signal, and we think it's because of our metal fences like yours. We will get rid of them and replace it with non metallic material just to be sure. Sorry for your loss !

I thought these types of activities are normally not allowed at Markham Park. What did you have to do to get permission to do this? Was anyone who can fly at Markham Park allowed to participate? How do I find out the next time this is happening at Markham Part?
