I remember hearing this for the first time in first grade. Now I’m a grown college student.

Lovely to hear his voice in this recording. and I'm glad he "set the record straight" about the reading. The editors of the hymnal made a mistake I hope can be fixed in the next edition.

In the first 5 seconds, there's some text saying that it's "Sung by the Rev. Kristin Grassel Schmidt". It goes by really fast, and is easy to miss.

This was really cool when we did this at Unity Temple in Oak Park, IL. the sanctuary is a square and has people sitting on 3-4 levels, so different sides of the sanctuary took a different part. It was a really cool effect.

I'm late to this but is everyone in this video White talking about dismantling White superemacy? I give them credit but it would be nice if a knowledgeable pro-Black man like myself was in the conversation.

This came on right after a hymn I was looking at to play during worship this Sunday and it started with "I love you" and then I saw Aisha's face and I am feeling very blessed right now. So good to see ya'lls faces. Big Love.

I would very much like our congregations to be sanctuaries for black lives! My hope is that we can learn and grow together to create the space that will feel safe for all.

Why I'm committed to anti-racism and what it means to me: I'm committed to anti-racism because racism harms all of us. It harms my own heart to see my black and brown siblings mistreated. It harms my own heart to know that I belong to a class of people who can do them harm without legal or economic consequence. It is a poison in my soul to see this harm done without acting on it. And I am also keenly aware that whatever harm befalls my kindred may ultimately come to me, as inhumanity breeds inhumanity -- but then again, love breeds love, on whose side I aim to stand. As a member of the LGBTQ+ community, I am aware that I owe my own liberation in large part to my black and brown siblings -- pioneers who pressed us all into greater space and freedom of movement. I also seek to dismantle racism to help defend people of color in my own family against the harm racism brings. I understand that my own liberation is bound up with the liberation of all people, and particularly here, with people of color.

To use my voice with courage to help building a better society, fairer, just, for black people, people of color, everyone. To overcome fear with faith in the possibility I can contribute to change in this way!

Watching the recording and glad to have this opportunity to answer the question why I am committed to being an anti-racist. I have written my answer on my phone. I will share this video and chat with my family too.

1. From the time I was a child, and saw that people of color weren’t being treated equally, I recognized it as wrong. 2. One of my favorite things about UU church when I discovered it in 1975, was the anti racism work. I was happy to find a church with that value. 3. I have seen that those who are most active in white supremacy are also anti women and against the equality for gays and lesbians 4. I am afraid for the future of the country unless the hate mongering of racism is ended. 5. I want my granddaughters to live free in America. No way to have a just society when it is based on racism.
@mistymiller49814 жыл бұрын
I am anti-racist because nothing is going to change until white people get committed to ending racism. I also recognize that I have aspects of racism within myself. I know that I benefit from white privilege. I know I have to work at times not to judge based on color. I know that I cannot possibly understand what it is like to be a person of color.
