Yo.... first time I watch a video about octane...interesting!!!.. Don't know if you can answer my question; When I render videos (png sequenzes) with "dramatic lightning" I always get some weird "smudgy" flickering. No matter how many samples and what denoising settings I use. People suggest "temporal denoising", but when I tried that, my render-times went through the roof. Do you know that problem and does it also exist in Octane?

Heres why Octane Lighting looks the "best": So everyone knows about ray tracing and the "newer" path tracing which makes lighting more realistic. Octane and a few older and more advanced softwares use Spectral Rendering which is the end all be all light science. It simulates light at the wavelength level WELL past the rgb spectrum that we know. This is eventually the end goal for all real time rendering to have 100% accurate light. However, with AI generation we might scrap it all together and let ai just create the lighting at the molecular level. We'll see. But yeah...thats why it looks so good.

I havent used it yet, is it better for cooler looking stills?

Render engines aren't the best in general, it's just personal preference If you like Cycles over Octane, or vice versa, it's fine, i personally prefer Cycles (for now) cause setting up materials and environments are eaiser for me, but I'll see what i can do with Octane once I'm confortable learning it. I did play with Octane for a bit, i really did enioy it, especially with one of the sky presets allow you to...basiclaly just create space without volumetric spheres.

Trying to follow along on a mac here. I was able to get to the point where I needed to start the server. Problem is the app in the zip file is grey'd out for my OS even though Im running Sonoma which is the version the download says it's compatible with - any ideas? Would love to continue with the tutorials you made and start learning!

OG, how to speed up render viewport, I have a not too complex scene or high poly shoes and hair(particle sim). When I try to edit my shaders in real time like I always do, it’s says “updating shader” for like 10 seconds, it’s so frustrating, I even reduced the max sample size to 16😢, still slow af, we don’t have eveee so it’s almost impossible to get it done, please advise OG 🙌🏾

you can always tell the difference when something is rendered using cycles, it has this ... slightly un-polished look to it, where as octane is just a tad better. always. It's why the bigger mid-sized studios tend to still use it.

the good thing is that Octane-Blender uses all the addons and preferences of the same version installed. I was searching for a Octane-Material library for Blender like they have for AMD Pro-Render, but no luck. Or maybe I'm too dumb to use Google.

thanks for your tutorials. Octane has advantages over Cycles like caustics for more realism. I'm not sure about rendering speed. Or maybe my RTX isn't good enough.

Would you say it's wise yo switch to Octane for archviz ? I currently ran away from cycles to Luxcore because of the light handling and Luxcore looks more like Corona but for blender, so i dont know if i should try out octane
