do the CV joints ever bend, or are they just for aesthetics?

The whole construction only works because there is a lot of "movement" in all the joints....the CV joints help it run easier

There should be real roller coasters with this mechanism, it looks so much cooler than the standard chain lift, and the one with just the bars in the centre turning looks reasonably practical. I suppose the huge exposed moving parts in the middle might be considered a little dangerous.
