A "self sustaining city" on Mars?? Dream on. Musk has no serious plan or intent to colonize Mars any time in the foreseeable future. If he did, he would be investing in Biosphere 2. You can't even think about a city on Mars if you can't even maintain a closed, self-sustaining habitat on Earth.

WE'RE SO SORRY --- There is Literally "NO WAY" THE CURRENT "ROCKET tECHNOLOGY" WILL SURVIVE A 30 MONTH, MANNED, SAFE RETURN MISSION TO MARS . IT'S EITHER A 5-9's Reliability or better - OR it's a "Fault Tolerant (2 out of 3)" Vehicle safe return. OR--- the Engine/Energy Technology must immensely Improve.

Let me just add a couple things here, since your listening. Taking off in a rocket from 3 to 300 ft mean sea level is foolish when it is way more energy efficient to truck the part and fuel... to 18 , 000 ft mean sea level.
