How I miss Cruz in the lake front. I had just graduated from East Jefferson High a year or so when this video was taken, I’m probably in it somewhere? Riding the lake front in my 55 Chevy, drag racing at night, hanging out with friends, drinking beer, Grunch hunting in City Park on Mona Lisa Lane, lol, right! Best years of my life!

After 42 years I wonder what these people look like today. As I recall not too long after this is when the Levee Board Police started closing everything down and made Lakeshore drive one way with very little access if any.

I love watching this. No cell phones, no worries about skin cancer. Just having a good time. Heard the same channel coming from different cars.

I wish I was around at this time so I could be a part of the 1# marching band in the state of Louisiana instead of being a part of what it is now

One of the best bands in the state at the time

This is John Morgan, marching band snare drummer 1970-1972. In 1972 the school decided that we were not to play Dixie at the Nicholls HS vs Chalmette game, well guess what, yep we played it and Mr Hurstell went bonkers trying to stop the band. It didn’t work but boy did we catch hell when we got back in the band room. The Chalmette marching band was one of the best in the city back then. We won all kinds of awards at our competitions and parades. Mr Hurstell was a professional level band director and he taught us soooo much. It was because of him that I went on to play professionally for the next 40 years. Chalmette was blessed to have him. The 1971 band was the one that started the “in front” Starduster style percussion section formation for high school bands. Damn I miss those days. We also added the rudiments bass drums and quads. We were living on cloud 9 kicking butt and taking names.

Good luck finding it Monique. These clips are very rare. Very few were archived. Most were taped over to save money. Money was saved for something that was priceless. I posted 11 parts. I don’t know of any others…

@@geecant Thanks, it was one of the last shows I think. 1973 or 74 maybe. Still looking, now that you got my attention on it! 😁

When I digitized the videos years ago, most were dated 1972. That could have been an error. I don’t remember any later than that. I hope that you find what you’re looking for. Even if you don’t, I’m sure that you will enjoy the ones that are posted. I also have all of these posted on my Vimeo page if you want to download them.

This brings back so many memories. I can remember back in the early to mid eighties when I was in the band, we used to fill the whole section that was reserved for the band and more. They had to reserve a section to the right for the percussion unit. Our band Director was Mr. Huey. We were invited to march in the Rex parade on Mardi Gras day and he turned it down. A lot of us weren’t happy about him turning it down. Thanks Glenn for posting this, it brings back good memories.

I was in the band from 71-74. We filled every uniform. One hundred strong. I was part of Wayne Warner’s first graduating class. Band made high school so much more fun.

Thanks Glenn for this. With as many places that I travel for my work this 9 minutes and some change always brings me back to growing up in St. Bernard. My family owned and operated Sno-T’s Snowballs off St. Bernard Hwy. for many years and we always had B 97 playing in the background. I still miss Buds Broiler on Judge Perez.

Two things (of many) come to mind: 1) rarely anyone swam in the water at the lakefront. It was common knowledge that it was contaminated with bacteria and a high prob that you would get sick (although we did so at the camps not too far away); and 2) 4-door cars were never the car of choice. If you were in a 4-door car, it was bc it was your parents or a hand-me-down from your parents or family member (or all you could afford) and were grateful to have. But no one purposely chose a 4-door. Just saying’.

Did he say Chalmette High School? Just outside of New Orleans. I went to school in Algiers. O.Perry Walker class of 1975. Great video. It would really help viewers to have some pertinent info like the school name and where it's located. Where they held the reunion. Just trying to help. Enjoyed the video.

This is great. I was at LSU in 1982 and remember weekends on the Lakefront very well. All those people and not a cell phone in sight, just enjoying what was around them. The good old days. Today everybody would be standing alone looking down at their phone texting the person next to them.

The great ole days! I grew up in Hog Alley as well and went there almost every weekend! Well I found some old friends on your tape that is from Hog Alley too, at the 5:17 mark. The four guys leaning against the car and a voice in the background is another friend I recognize his voice! Man thanks for sharing this with KZbin for everyone to see! Great times indeed! I also love that we can hear everything from WRNO the soundtrac audio advertisement. A Marantz unit for $475 or something like that! That’s awesome! Thanks again!!
