So enjoy the storytelling but don’t fool yourself into thinking that Howard was a historian, Howard made the same mistake that Lovecraft and Hitler made by thinking pseudo scientific racial theorists were actually documenting history when they were documenting their own psychosis. In that biography ,it goes into detail how Robert was an avid boxing fan and practitioner, writing several stories on the subject. It’s curious to notice how Howard omits the presence of black boxing champions like Jack Johnson ,the first black heavyweight , who was in his prime during Howard’s day. And ignores the fact that there was a separate championship for black fighters to prevent them from competing with whites due to the fear white America head of a black man beating a white man in the ring. Howard wrote with contempt about Mexicans in Texas when writing to Lovecraft and Howard depicts blacks as cowardly and weak and his stories but A substantial portion of boxing champions have been black or Latin since his day, so he would probably hate The racial make up of combat sports nowadays.
