I just watch a video of a tech stating where the grease fitting is normally placed. He said the same as you, but the problem is he said, "I'll let the customer know that he needs it installed so the throwout bearing won't dry out." In reality, all he had to do was look for it. I'm so glad I found your video because my clutch has been kinda sticky. I wonder how many other techs have no clue where the grease fitting is.

Do not cut the suspension rod . Check to see if the differential rod bracket is bent . Remove rod from air valve bracket arm . Chalk Steer tires and release parking brakes . Adjust air to air springs , bring frame level across the tops of tires . Place golf tee through air valve bracket into valve body . Connect rod to bracket and tighten valve , remove golf tee .

Doesnt a remote throwout bearing have a cable that goes from that fitting to the chassis near the bottom of the fuel filter? If so, how much grease do you put in the cable? Do you pump it with grease until it comes out of the top of the cable?
@BrackishMongrel
@BrackishMongrel 9 ай бұрын
I'm not sure what you are referring to. The throwout bearing is on the input shaft of your transmission. Most are actuated via a hydraulic or mechanical linkage, and to my knowledge there are no cables involved in any application. Perhaps the "cable" you refer to is a grease tube? In that case, I suppose it could be located anywhere on the truck, and you could just follow that grease tube to the transmission to know which one it is. As far as how many pumps of grease, you only want to do about three pumps every 50k miles. Any more and you can get grease on your clutch which could cause problems. Hope I answered your question.

Should the shaking in the rear be intermittent or constant. I have a shake in the rear and it comes and goes
@BrackishMongrel

I get that too. Sometimes it is the trailer that I am pulling, but I think overall it's a combination of worn engine mounts, suspension bushings, tires out of balance, etc. Any number of things. I don't think it can be nailed down to just one thing. My truck has almost a million miles, and I'm learning to live with the fact that it's not new anymore. So if your truck has a bunch of miles with original motor mounts and suspension components, it's probably all of it together when it comes and goes like you're describing.

I bought mine directly from Freightliner. But before you do that, there was someone who commented that he's had success using oven cleaner. I never thought of that, so it may be worth a try.
@johac7637
@johac7637 11 ай бұрын
I have cleaned them with old fashioned stinky "oven clearer" the original, corrosive stuff, I wash it with solvent, diesel, even gasoline, then pour the oven cleaner in, plug the hole and shake it, depending on how dirty it is, 2-3 times, then rinse with hot water til clean, I've tried every snake oil, Seafoam included, hot, cold, nothing cuts the residues of blowby, oil gum like oven cleaner. Word of caution, don't leave it soaking for hours, it will etch the aluminum., I've boiled stuff in a big slow cooker with TSP, original nasty stuff, it's almost like the old outlawed hot tanks for effectiveness.

Yes, they do self adjust, that's their whole purpose, but they are still manually adjustable at the valve itself to raise or lower the maximum height.

What is the height supposed to be at and will it change when empty or you have a trailer attached?
@BrackishMongrel
@BrackishMongrel Жыл бұрын
I've always set my height to where the top of the tires, (assuming they are 295/75 22.5's) are even with the top of the frame rail. And yes, it should be at the same height loaded and empty. That is the purpose of the leveling valve. It adds our removes air from the suspension to maintain a constant height.
