Hi Brian great videos btw :-) I'd love to know (as you've stuck with the Adderall) whether or not the sleepiness passes, maybe it's something the brain adjusts to?? I'm early in my meds journey and am freaking out as I get so incredibly drowsy, whilst I love the calm and quiet it gives me (fairly low dose of methylphenidate IR 5-10mg x 2 a day) the major worry is that I can barely function some days on it. Just curious about how you've experienced this side of the meds over the past two years :-)

I went from Adderall XR to Vyvanse and now I’m taking MyDayis. MyDayis is basically Adderall XR XR. It’s released in 3 stages and it’s very smooth. No highs and lows. A lot of people say it “works on the background”. Mydayis is the only ADHD med that I’ve taken where I don’t feel medicated but I definitely notice how well it helps me.

I find most labels just separate people. And the ability to find people who think and agree with you on everything makes you less tolerable to different opinions. If no one challenges us on our beliefs, we can never grow or change. I think stepping away from the internet, and even the convenience of phones would be beneficial for a lot of people. The world has grown impatient

I read a reddit thread on this. Apparently, while adderall is a stimulant, if you have adhd, it calms your brain down, it's not rushing around so much, and so it gives your body the chance to realize "Wow, I need sleep". now apparently getting a good night's sleep can remedy this, so maybe you just need more sleep than you thought

Getting sleepy after taking Adderall or Caffine is a sure sign or "real ADHD". If you think about the stereotypical ADHD kid in class who can't sit in his chair, the ADHD medication actually calms him down. He doesn't start doing back flips out of his chair and doing laps around the room. The effect you're going for isnt to feel "stimulated" its to feel a dopamine response when you're doing something you're not really interested in ... i.e. school work.

I have the same experience. Coffee has never made me hyper or more focused. It usually makes me feel more calm and relaxed? I started taking Concerta last month and at 27mg in the day and 18mg in the afternoon, I noticed coffee started to give me anxiety and heart palpatations. I started Vyvanse yesterday and about an hour or two later.. I felt like knocking out. I took it at 9:30 am today and by 11:30 I need a nap, it's that same sensation I get when I drink nighttime Neocitran when Im sick.

So, too much coffee does make me amped. I keep my coffee to a mug and a half (mostly because I forget to drink the last half) and have no issues. Actually I wasn’t searching properly bc my sleepy is after the adderall wears off. I am just starting - 5 mg - and it will need increasing bc no change OTHER THAN I am damn sleepy when it wears off. One side benefit is that I am falling asleep earlier; instead of staying up until 1:00 or 3:00 I am falling asleep at 11.

Thank you sooo much for sharing this . For 3 days I’ve been researching online and KZbin trying to find other people who are taking meds and feeling the way you (and me) do. I’m taking D-amphetamine 10 mg twice a day today is day 4. All of the reviews I read about adderall I couldn’t wait to try the meds because for years I’ve had chronic fatigue it’s debilitating can’t focus nor get anything done I just want to get in the bed, mind always racing and thinking about 100 things at once, start projects and don’t finish them, memory sucks,,, I can go on and on. I was excited to start the medication and move forward. My doctor told me to take one pill in the morning and the other around noon. I thought, maybe I have to wait a few days for the meds to kick in but that cannot be true because it’s a stimulant. Sometimes after I take the first pill I might get maybe 2 hours of energy but nothing to brag about, then that’s the end of that . The second pill seems like I didn’t take a pill at all . Next thing you know I feel like I had some melatonin. And today was the worse . I feel so drained, tired , exhausted and fatigue. I have a doctors visit in a few weeks I will see what she recommends. I was so looking forward to getting my life together but 🤷🏽♀️

Maybe you need a little higher dose... Maybe Adderall is not the right med for you.. it could be that you would do better on one of the non-stimulant types. Sometimes it's just going to take trial and error. I've tried Vyvanse which is the extended release Adderall (I think) and I didn't like it as much as the generic. I may still try a couple of others, but I'm not in a hurry right now. It's not a cure-all but it's definitely helping! I managed to get some of my taxes caught up lol. I even got my teaching cert renewed after a long time, but that was caused by a million different things. Basically, I just FORGOT to renew it and then was told the wrong things about getting it redone! It just takes awhile. My son took his and on the first day, his reading test scores went up an entire grade level! Ugh.... Just be patient. You'll get it figured out. If you keep doing your own research, you can make suggestions to the Dr and maybe move things along faster. Good luck!

Happy to hear that something worked for you and thanks for sharing you and your son’s experience 😊best of luck … by the way the last two days I haven’t felt tired maybe I needed to give it some time

I just got diagnosed at age 47. I was looking forward to taking adderall and get some control over this mess called my life. Today I took first dose and went straight to sleep. I described it just like you, it was exactly like taking melatonin. I was expecting to focus didn’t happen…

@@Allurenzia I’m so sorry you had that same experience. All of the positive reviews and research I read up on before taking Adderall , I was so excited to get started but as you stated I did not get the amazing results everyone else was getting . So I noticed week 2 1/2 I wasn’t getting as sleepy as the first week . I asked my doctor if I could try the Adderall XR and I’ve been taking that for about two weeks now. When I first started a few of those days I was extremely sleepy as with the first pills . But it’s not so bad now. A lot of people are saying the pills are not the same as they were a few years ago . I wish you the best of luck and if you can keep me updated on if your results change 🙏🏾😊

It doesn't make me sleepy but some days 20mg IR (Shire) doesn't wake me up enough. I am also the type that if I can't fall asleep I will drink a cup of coffee. My favorite part is even if my body is sleepy, my mind has enough energy and alertness to keep my actions in check. I would just be so worn down mentally I was unable to stop myself from getting sad and crying uncontrollably or having no filter on emotions. The inability to have self control really was the worst. This had almost no limits, buying weed or alcohol when I shouldn't. Other things, arguments, etc. Just constantly doing things against my own best interest

Hey bud, it's a couple of years later. Are you still tired when on stimulants? I ask because a long time ago when I was younger, stimulants were like speed for me. But now I'm older, 38/M, and diagnosed as ADHD, but stimulants have either done nothing at all or increased my tiredness. I'm absolutely exhausted all the time.
@lauralou4852 Жыл бұрын
I’ve been looking into this - specifically when it has worked for a long period of time and then, one day, it just knocks you out. Of course there are tons of people saying, “Caffeine/ stimulants calm us down.” Well, duh. Sure. But this isn’t that. Some people HIT a WALL where the meds just stop working like they once did and make you CRASH after taking them. If you close your eyes and give in to this INSANE urge to sleep, it lasts like 20-40 mins and can drag out all day if you don’t force yourself to get going and do something physical. I haven’t been able to find much except 1- up your dose. More of the meds might be needed. There seems to be nothing out there detailing 2 - adrenals might be burning out. If you’re already under a ton of stress or living in a survival state (fight/flight) due to some past trauma or mental health concern, Stimulants are just going to exhaust your adrenals even more. So, taking a higher dose might work but - to what end? This was when I started watching Dr. Berg on KZbin and learning more about the causes of ADHD and ways to treat the CAUSE of the symptoms. I know it’s an unpopular opinion and no one wants to hear about the negative effects of stimulants (even when you legitimately need them) but I’m feeling much better, mentally, now that I’m exploring these vitamin deficiencies & diet changes that can provide relief. So instead of pushing my body to keep going up a never ending bill of “more more more,” I’m switching over to alternative treatment completely. You would’ve never convinced me to even consider that a few years ago. Everyone has their own journey and has to come to their own conclusions… I was just creeped out by the sudden epileptic-type crashes that stimulants starting causing. They once helped and then they just stopped and I can’t make sense of upping the dose when my gut is begging me to do something else. If I didn’t see fast changes in my cognition, I probably would’ve just kept spinning my wheels but I felt the changes in my body and brain within a week of switching to a Keto-vore diet and supplementing with vitamins & minerals. The best way to put it is: the focus fog lifted. That has been enough to keep me pressing on and trying to see if I can function better without meds at all. I’m not suggesting anyone does anything crazy or without your doc. But watching Dr Berg and Dr Berry’s videos would be a great place to start poking around for more info if you’re sick of the meds leaving you drained and in a zombie-like state. Nothing is more frustrating than a solution that stops working.

I've always had the issue where large amounts of caffeine put it out. My friends couldn't believe how I could drink an entire energy drink and then take a map. But over the course of the two years I've been on Adderall, the effects have balanced out. I don't get sleepy, and I don't really notice anything different, that is until I have to concentrate on something and it isn't as difficult as it is when I wasn't taking Adderall. But definitely talk to your doctor if the sleepiness is becoming a detriment. There may be something out there that's a better fit for you.
@BrianJHatcher Жыл бұрын
One of the big issues with mental health and neurodivergency is that sometimes medications that worked well in the past can lose their effectiveness, and that can be frustrating. And, yes, changing a prescription or a dosage without the guidance of a doctor is not a good idea. I'm not that familiar with Dr. Berg, so I'm not sure how sound his advice may be. But I can't argue that having a focus on health and taking on good habits that promote health can only help.
