Excellent video! There's a lot of snow up there & it looked steep & intimidating for a 'normal' route. I'm off to the Saastal in 6 weeks, fingers crossed for good conditions.

C'est pour déclencher les avalanches préventivement. Y'a des pistes en dessous, ça sécurise le domaine.

I skied that back in the late 1980s. We did have a guide and had to avoid crevasses but I don't remember having ti ski around/over rocks, wow!

Yeah things have unfortunately changed a lot since the 1980s. Mer de Glace (and all the other glaciers) are visibly receding every year. Steps and ladders are added each year in order to reach the floor of Mer de Glace when coming from the Montenvers train. It must have been amazing back in the day!
