I work in Northampton and my shoulders droop as soon as I hit the town - it’s depressing and also unsafe not a pleasant experience - only got a few left of working life so I’ll take the hit for now

Showing Northampton without showing or mentioning what it is historically most famous for i.e., shoes and the shoe factories is a miss. John Lobb, Edward Green, Church's, Crockett and Jones, Trickers, Cheaney, etc.

My old hometown. Miss it and the whole UK terribly. I used to live outside Hornton on Quarry Rd. Went to Hornton school and then Easington modern girls. My best freind was Susan Batchelor from Balscote

Thanks for sharing your memories. The town has changed hugely, unfortunately .
@carolineolsenarnold703913 күн бұрын
@@spectrumwalkingtourshello, yes I can see the changes, so sad. In my time it was a lovely, bustling market town. Saturday mornings if driving there one would end up behind a flock of sheep and sheepdog. I was never in a hurry so was happy to wait until they split the flock in half to drive through. High street was full of individual shops, we had a couple of bakers, a good butcher that would save scraps and bones for our dogs. The biggest shop was Woolsworth at the bottom of HighStreet. No supermarkets, no fast food places. Two chippy, one at top of High street, the other down in the market place. Parson street had some lovely little pokey shops my mum loved to browse in. Now it's all modern looking junk closed shops and general depression. I am thankful I have my good memories of it. Thanks for the video, stay safe.

I'm from Northampton and yes, it's always had it's problems. However, the big plus point it has is plenty of green spaces. Abington Park, Eastfield Park and the abundance of greenery around the shire. The town centre is dying, but you know that's reflected across the UK but go down St Giles street instead of Abington st and you see a different story. It does need a more forward thinking council, and one that values the resources it still has. Northampton has an abundance of creative people and a few quid here and there would see changes.

Hi, I agree that most town centres have seen a big downturn. Hopefully, one day, I will come back and do a follow-up. Thanks for watching 👀.

The Old Bridge Inn as seen at the beginning is good, but expensive. I prefer Brampton Mill (in lovely setting on the river) for food every bit as good; it's about a ten minute drive from the town centre. There's also the Black Bull at Brampton. There are many eateries in the town itself for cheaper fare.

@spectrumwalkingtours3 ай бұрын
Hi Sue, You are right, there is no mainline train station. Broadway does have a heritage train line which goes from the village to Cheltenham racecourse using a mix of steam and diesel trains. Bus connections are available to the village from Evesham, Stratford upon Avon and Cheltenham, here is a link to the details. www.visit-broadway.co.uk/local-services/public-transport.php. Hope this helps, take care.

Thanks for making this video. I've heard a lot about this place and it is great to be able to see it like this. I'd love to visit, but not sure i'd like the crowds too much. Can you recommend any similar villages/towns in the area that manage to avoid being crammed with tourists due to not being so well known?

Thank you so much 💓, I have a few suggestions for you. Not so well known is Chipping Norton. Also, consider Cirencester, which is the hub of the cotswolds, but is spacious. Just outside of the cotswolds is Witney, which is not so much on the tourist trail. Hope this helps.
