One would hope the MAGA crowd is smarter than that, but history is not on their side. Trump's statement that those who do not meet their 2% NATO commitment are open season for other nations to attack is also a concern for Canada's sovereignty. These other nations include, but are not limited to his friends in Russia and North Korea. You would think all these MAGA threats would make Canadians worried, but no, instead Canada's politicians look for security by negotiating with with the very man who has publicly spoken these threats. Apparently Canadian's accept negotiations will protect Canada's borders better than a strong military. As world conflict expands Canada needs a radical approach to quickly build a strong military. The method needs to be one that gives Canadians benefits in enlisting, consequences for not, and ultimately helps addresses our NATO commitment. What if post secondary opportunities required a military service component. You want a government subsidize degree, you get it if you are a reservist. You want to own a gun, then have military training and you get a free gun with bullets as long as you do you remain in the reserve. You want a strong economy then Canadian military built weaponry. You want a strong and free country, then put your money where your mouth is and don't blame politicians for impact on your holiday plans.
