Hey, any chance you ever ran into old scotsman Ian from the ingersol plant? He started in the 60s and was lead maintenance foreman until the late 80s. Never would have been able to tell though, he was always right in there with the millwrights actually working lol

Very hard to find real coke plant footage on KZbin from the US. Most footage is in Asia, or really fancy plants. This is the best I’ve seen. Never worked in a coke plant but very interested. Great video!

I work at the same Coke plant this videos from(Clairton Coke Works). This here is B battery commissioned in the 80's. I work on 19-20 which is a bigger Coke battery but not as big as B or its sister battery, C Battery

Worked in Granite City we would go under the larry cart and tap it with a steel rod to let the operator know when charging hole and cart are aligned. If he went over you would tap at the back. That was in 2010. Dirty job.

Often this type of work at the coke ovens is performed by the people lowest on the seniority roster at integrated steel mills that have their own coke oven batteries. Yeah, I bet this is indeed a "hell hole." Especially on a hot summer day! Thanks for sharing an industrial work process rarely seen up close.

They say that the coke to make the steel cost more than the finished product... Coke was selling at one time for 1500.00 a ton and steel was at 650.00 a ton back in the 90's?? Maybe early 2000.. Coke is very expensive and the key to high quality Steel.... thanks for your comment... have a great day!!

It was dark and I came running down the stairs while trying to turn on my Daughters Camera.. Fugi 15X Zoom... I wanted Video on Set.. Because it was night and the Ship was too far for a Picture... When I looked up... it was slowly moving through the sky... I believe it did not expect me to come running out the door with a Camera... I may have spooked it two times total... once when I moved my feet and once when it saw me running down street after it....I got 23 seconds of video... it looks like shit...but the video tells me everyting I want to know.. and it shows the Alien Critter with the orange glow... kzbin.info/www/bejne/a6q5iJRmrZmipMU

Best was the Hour on Hour Off.... you work it out between workers.. 12 hr shifts works well... In the summer we do half on half off and if super hot we do 10 minutes on and four men routine... and rotate..... Hard to dry clothes every break... soaked all the time.. under protective Uniforms.we were required to wear.... at 50 years old at the time when I was transfered there from Production... I had enough after 18 months.. felt like jail time LOL... terrible place to work ... great people and terrible Supervision....... Sweet and Sour...
