I think that elevating rails around and in city as much as possible should help, coz as we can see here, the rails kinda set the boundary for a city. Awesome stuff btw, loved it. Had never thought of bringing freight directly inside the city, but will try it out.

I’m a 48 year old man. I grew up in Southern California, just outside Los Angeles. So I grew up with the clang and thunder of Ol’ Bloody Nose. Man do I love those locomotives and the sounds, smells, and memories they made. Never gets old. Thank you for creating this video. Its content is exactly what I want to see and hear when I search train vids on this here KZbin. Excellent work 🫡

I worked this line as an engineer for SP from 1977 through 1980. First solo trip after marking up had an early merchandise trip from Colton to Yuma and the air line broke due to stress going up to Beaumont. Had to stop for repair. The crews were nice about it possibly because I was one of the 6 female engineers that SP hired on in 1977! Many stories to tell about the LA subdivision, Taylor Yard as a hostler, and heavy ore train, C yard in Colton, a local Watts experience, and up through dark territory to Palmdale with train orders! God bless=brought back memories!

I saw some units in their prime in Texas. The 90s were a better place. The EPA is garbage. Theyll destroy vast areas of land for lithium and call it progress, meanwhile a little oil and diesel and these work fine.

The 6 SD40M-2's that originally came from Conrail and Erie Lackawanna before them were actually SD45M's,not SDP45's. Erie Lackawanna's SD45M's were specific to them and only them. They specifically ordered these units from EMD with enlarged fuel tanks that would become the standard sized fuel tanks on the SD60 & SD70 series units. The units were in usage for freight only and didn't have steam generators like the SDP45's obviously did for passenger service. The SDP45's & SD45M's were built on the exact same frames. Most of the SD45M's after Conrail went to VMS and then MKR acquired the remainder fleet. Six units as I mentioned became SD40M-2's for Southern Pacific among 97 SD45R's and 30 SD40R's which were rebuilt into SD40M-2's as well by MKR. Alot of the SD40M-2's survived well into the merge afterwards, some units were repainted but most were patched. After Union Pacific any surviving SD40M-2's went to WAMX or NREX while others unfortunately ended up in scrapyards.

unfortunately trona railroads tunnel motors days are numbered thanks to the California air recourses board giving them funding to scrap at least 3 of the locomotives 2 of which being tunnel motors and one being 2002 the remaining sd40s will be rebuilt into tier 4 standards but the Kodachrome will be donated to the Sacramento railway museum which is very nice of the company sad to see the tunnel motors go this will take effect in 2025 the epa sucks sd40s are cooler I also have video of the Kodachrome in operation kzbin.info/www/bejne/iXbceoh5q7Wims0 kzbin.info/www/bejne/pYKqiWSfhdKNbas kzbin.info/www/bejne/jprInaOvp851aJI

It a good video Goatie with some nice history. But i am very disappointed that you chose the low hanging fruit of using AI voiceovers. To a person that dislikes all things AI, it sounds very jarring. I really dont get why you would use AI voice tech when you have such a good broadcasting voice yourself. Just buy a decent gaming headset with a good mic and you can record yourself. It DOESNT have to be prefect, its not a National Geographic doco, people would appreciate much more hearing your kind voice than a stupid fake ass AI voice. PLS pls, for the love of all things natural and good, stop using AI voiceovers! Nothing good can come of it. You have a lovely voice, dont be ashamed of it. You dont have to make your docos sound like they were made by a soulless TV corporation. Just be yourself, my frend. I am so sad right now... :(

I got to know many of the conductors and engineers along the route from West Colton to Yuma. I spent many days and nights railfanning along the Yuma sub. Please add more of this and any of the Phoenix subdivision as I used to also railfan at Picacho, Az. Thanks for sharing!

The temperature in an air conditioned locomotive was not 120 degrees! Once in a while you’d get a unit on the head end with working a/c. A lot times there might be working a/c in the consist, but that isn’t the lead unit.

The reason it was closed down is the same reason they will never make a historic railroad circuit on it: very high maintenance. The area was plagued with a lot of rock slides and tunnels would have to be cleared quite often. At one point the maintenance of the line became more expensive than the cargo revenue so they just gave up on it.
