Yes, I was at this show, and I'm so glad this recording was posted. I have lots of questions about this performance, starting with the opening lyrics to "Watching the River Flow" -- especially the second line. What I hear is: "What's the matter with me now?/ ... the floor/ Daylight sneaking through the window/Right under the door." Can anyone help me figure out the second line?

Thanks Matt, glad you enjoyed this vid! Unfortunately, this was the only performance I saw in person. The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame DVD was recorded around this same time and I have that. Hi, Bob. First, we really enjoyed hearing you and Bradley Kopp in Horseshoe Bay last week...such a great time! But I hope you can clear up something that's been confusing me. What's the deal with Mickey Raphael being shown as Mickey Raipheld on this LP and on "¡Viva Terlingua!"? When I first saw that, I thought it was a typo, but couldn't figure out how it got past everyone. Was that his professional name for a while?
@renegade.records4 ай бұрын
@@FireAntGazette thanks for mentioning this!! I’ve always wondered if it was another guy that looked just like Raphael or if it was actually Mickey and they misspelled his name. One theory I’ve always had was that, due to him possibly being locked into a record deal with Willie Nelson, maybe he wasn’t legally allowed to appear on anyone else’s recorded albums. As a result, maybe they just misspelled his name to conceal his identity. Would love to hear Cosmic Bob’s take on this, but he still hasn’t responded to my original reply asking for a few stories. Maybe someday he’ll just breeze back in here and drop the answers on us. Until then…
@FireAntGazette4 ай бұрын
@@renegade.records That’s a very interesting theory about the contractual implications; I hadn’t considered that. But I have no doubt that it really was Raphael playing harp on ¡Viva Terlingua!…there are just too many corroborating accounts by different players. Until Bob chooses to weigh in, I think I’ll stick with the contract theory.

Well, of course I'm extremely biased, but this record also holds a special place in my heart. I was 17 years old when I played on the record, and later today, after more than 50 years, I'll be singing Hill Country Rain with The Lost Austin Band (that includes Craig Hillis) at The Saxon Pub in Austin. Thanks so much for the "re-mastering". Let's talk sometime.

@pattersonbarrett very cool of you to chime in here. Really appreciate you taking a listen to the ‘remaster’… it’s not much to brag about, just tweaking some levels in Audacity. Doc Simons was one of the first people to ever comment on this vid, I pinned his comment to the top of you wanna check it out. Thanks for sharing info about your gig in Austin tonite. ‘Hill Country Rain’ is my fave hands down… hopefully you guys can snag some audio/video of the performance - would LOVE see that!
