Yeti is not a good choice Get your self a 12v compressor fridge for less than half the price And don't waste space with ICE After you put ice in your 60 Qt over priced hunk of junk becomes a 30 Qt. Piece of junk. Treat your self to a real refrigerator that runs 5 days on a 100 AMP hour battery. Both a Lifepo and compressor fridge costs less than a Yeti...

The Truth: If it says "YETI" on the side of it, you paid too much for it. Edit: I have a modified Kool-a-tron. I removed the small peltier module and heat sinks, used 3/8"(10mm) PVC tubing to effectively line the inside of the cooler in a long loop coil (lots of superglue). I run these out the hole the original unit used, keeping them apart, I taped off and expansion foamed the hole. Those lines run to a 12volt 2gpm pump and a single 40x40x15mm copper cooling block. 2x 12715 TEC modules are placed cold sides to the copper block, and each hot side has a 6 pipe tower cooler and 120mm fan, all clamped together. Yes... it draws like a MrFr, I have a 50amp power supply with QD plug for when its at home, and a 50amp fused, direct to battery QD plug in the trunk for mobile use. Each peltier is 15amp, pump is 1amp, fans together maybe half an amp, if that. Call it 32-35amps, over guessing without firing things up and busting out the AMPclamp. Gotta keep the engine running, but you'll get frosties on the cold side outlet to the cooler after a couple hours and everything is cold inside. All stuff I cobbled together from Amazon buys over the years. Ain't pretty, but she makes your warm beer cold, and cold beer colder.

A sales person told me right out.. its a status symbol thing.. Yeah they work very well. There is something unique then about the formulation or the matrix design of the insulation material that Yeti fills it with . The foam possiblely has substantially way more microscopic air pockets in it.. ??? 😊

I love my orca. The t-handles don't really bug me. I like how tight it closes the only problem I have with it is that temperature change sometimes creates a vacuum effect and makes it really hard to open the sealed lid. But I love how durable it is it holds cold ass drinks for like 8 days with 14 lb of ice. You can set your drinks in it put 7 lb bag inside of it let it melt halfway and put a second bag in and it'll literally last you a week plus. I've had it last almost 2 weeks with the same ice in the winter time

I like that you mentioned the nylon webbing handle. Rigid cooler handles are a huge pain in a tightly packed trunk. This thing slips out easily, either with the webbing handle or the two recessed grab areas on the sides, and the smaller footprint takes up less space in the trunk or backseat. The other big selling point for me (aside from the Yeti reputation for quality and performance) was the internal height. I wouldn't get a cooler that couldn't fit a wine bottle vertically. This was the only cooler that I was able to find in the 20-25 quart range that could do that.

Have you noticed the bottom exterior getting very cold from the ice? Whatever it's sitting on becomes very cold from the cold coming off the bottom of the cooler. Makes me think it's not working as good as it should.

Sorry, maybe it's just the sentimental value, but the best cooler I've found is an old Igloo with metal hardware that my grandparents bought long ago. Over 40 years of camping and parties, and still going strong. That and my grandfather's Stanley thermos are two of the best everyday examples of "they don't make them like they used to".

For igloo, you can add some foam insulation sheet inside on the bottom.

The Igloo had the least amount of insulation on top, where the sun hit the most. If shielded with a piece of newspaper on top with an air gap in between, it would perform much better. The best and lightest insulation would be what the Stanley cup uses.

The Yeti simply isn’t for everyone, so it makes sense to spend the money if you have a need for ice retention while sacrificing capacity. A cooler with less insulation is good enough for most people who just need it for a day at the beach.

For excursion into no man land for weeks, none of this cooler will stack up against cheaper, better, and smarter 12vdc fridge. Have been using expensive ARB fridge in my truck for years but Amazon has crap load of fridges that works better than Yetti and much more functional that keep your ice cream hard for weeks, or perfect temperature for beer and T-bone steak when you arrived at your remote destination. My fridge has 2 chambers; one for frozen meat, ice cream, and frozen vegetable at -20degF, the other chamber is for can fruits, fresh vegetable, and drinks at 34degF all for less than $200. Did I mentioned the fridge can talk to your smart phone for power on/off, temperature control, voltage of your battery?

Take any decent cooler, COVER IT with a thick, doubled up old blanket so the outside temp does not touch the coolers body.. you'll extend your ice time even more, just for using an old blanket.
