Garbo knew the Danish physicist Niels Borg, who alerted her to the danger to Danish Jews. She contacted the King of Sweden in 1943 and persuaded him, and thus the Swedes, to rescue 7800 Jews (plus about 700 non-Jewish relatives). 482 old or sick Jews could not be saved, and were transported from Denmark to Teresienstadt. Kathy Joseph (YT: KATHYLOVESPHYSICS) first made me aware of Garbo's actions in this matter. The rest I looked up. The subject is more complex: German ships were purposefully docked during the rescue operations. This was unknown until many dacades after the war. Garbo did more actual good during WW2 than bond sellers or cantine operators all together did. She's called The Great Garbo justifiably.

Ich kann mich noch erinnern, da wurden Greta Garbo Filme im deutschen Fernsehen gezeigt. So etwas gibt es leider nicht mehr. Diese Frau war magisch.

Я видел много фильмов золотого Голливуда и много супер актрис, но ни одна не перевернула душу, как Гарбо. Притом, что ее я узнал позже всех и было с чем сравнивать.

Pure magic. From tragedy to comedy, from silents to talkies, that Mount Rushmore face conveyed a million expressions, and then some. No wonder I've drawn Garbo's portrait seven times! I appreciated the montage of laughter and good spirits - a refreshing contrast to the moody and sullen image often associated with her. Love the use of music from Juliet Of The Spirits.

Nope sorry can't see it , never have. You take Garbo's face and slap it next to a young Ava Gardner and there is no comparison. Ava was literally stunning, a true classically beautiful face with a bone structure to die for . Greta to me seemed almost plain by comparison.

What brought so much passion to Garbo's "love scenes" was the way she so masterfully ANTICIPATED the kiss. The anticipation was always right there on her face. She didn't portray that she simply wanted the kiss, but rather that she NEEDED it. And always, what she did with her eyes, looking down at her lover's mouth. Especially notable in her scenes with John Gilbert. Thank you for the great tribute! Well done!
