Hi Todd, I'm curious to find out how did you tie up the wooden frame to the stern of the boat. We will have to do it the same next year. Our sailboat Catalina 42 stern looks like your. Great videos. We enjoyed it a lot. Cheers Thx

My swim platform was flat with a ridge that allowed me to lay a small sheet of plywood with carpet to protect the gel coat. I screwed 2 foot section of a 2x4 to the forward bottom of the plywood to stop it from sliding aft. This provided a base to build either an "A" or box out to 2x4. Once the mast was lower on to now, I ensure it as secure and not going to slide fore and aft. The rear cradle had no top support. Just used ratchet straps to secure it to mast. Hope that helps.

~$5000US for truck from Annapolis to Rochester. Then about another $4K for lifts, mast crane, etc.. I stripped and re-rigged the mast. That saved me $2500..

Well I wouldn't worry about Covid-19 too much. Right now the death rate is 23 per 100,000 people. graphics.reuters.com/HEALTH-CORONAVIRUS-USA/0100B5K8423/index.html I likely do think you are around 50-60, so your risks are higher. The thing is pretty much most of the people that die are well over 80 with serious problems already. Essentially pretty much circling the drain anyway. You do not look like you are circling AT ALL. I'm sorry but the mainstream news media has basically been inciting a panic. There have been a few other fairly recent pandemics that got a lot more people than Covid 19 and the media didn't bat an eyelash. Look at just the AIDS Cube that has been counted since like 81. 25,000,000 vs Covid 200,000...say it kills 1 million a year...probably still won't touch Aids. Not to mention the Asian Flu or Swine Flu....just regular old influenza. My point is Covid-19 is statistically a joke. kzbin.info/www/bejne/rGiXZKOjrNqDf7s Personally I think and have heard lots of places the liberal news media has pushed this so much just because Trump had such a strong economy. The managers at a few news corps likely felt if they could hit the economy then that would defeat Trump in 2020. Though now all they did was put him on an even higher pedestal. Well given the attention the media has placed on this, I find to have a grain of truth that lwhen they ignored the other recent pandemics.

Todd, binge watched all your videos. Great updates and liked to see where you went and hear your commentary. Plus you are from Whitby.;) thanks for posting. Did you enjoy sailing lake Ontario more than the Caribbean / Bahamas? Would you have preferred sailing more of the great Lakes?
@murrat4 жыл бұрын
Hi Robert. Bahamas was the best waters for sea life and clarity hands down. Weather can be frightening if you don't have good holding in your anchorage. Many boats drag with insufficient ground tackle. I liked the eastern part of lake Ontario, like thousand islands. Good clean water and nice sailing. Haven't sailed in any of the other great lakes.

The Coronavirus is deadly to people generally above 80 or below six months of age. They say it has a 98% survival rate over the entire population. What they don't tell you is that most of the people whom have died are over 80. Apparently, especially with an additional severe medical condition the rate is somewhere like 50% in people over 80. So unless you are probably in a "old folks home" on deaths door you are pretty safe.

You can rent scooters and motorcycles for pretty cheap there. You have to know how to ride one though, a scooter with an automatic transmission is easier to learn on to transition to motorcycles if you don't know how to drive a motorcycle.

Just watched all your videos from start to end> I like the content, helpful as my wife and I are thinking about traveling the same route from Ontario in the future. We are researching/shopping for a boat now. Too bad your having to go at it solo. I sailed Grenada last March and loved the area. Do you find your keel to be too deep? We are leaning toward a 42 Catalina with beavertail keel. under 5 ft draft. Please keep up the good videos.
@murrat4 жыл бұрын
The draft depth was limiting in some anchorages. I recall moving boat into some anchorages in half tide rising to overcome some shoals. Navionics Sonar chart on my cell phone helped me. A draft under 5 feet is better for ICW and Bahamas for sure.

As of Oct 1st, 2019 the chain is so rusted that the locks cannot get into the links. Not much clearance. I would not use this as a solution for a dingy. Also, one lock is seized locked. My fault. The locks require regular oiling, or this will happen.

In this video I only seen one large ship from memory. I was miles away so no danger. I typically now set a 15 minute timer then go back to nap mode. I have crossed lake Ontario a few times and the only thing that I had to watch for was sport fisherman with their trolling rods.

The nut on the end of the transmission is a stake nut. The nuts are single use, and you stake them so that the nut locks into the keyway on the shaft so that the nut doesn't come undone. People often install them incorrectly.
@murrat5 жыл бұрын
Perhaps that's what happened then. The transmission was also slipping, so I had it rebuilt any way. Thanks for your comment.
@CraigOverend5 жыл бұрын
@@murrat I know you showed a leaky oil seal, was the lack of oil the reason for it slipping and wearing out the clutch? I know the drive cone clutches in some of the Yanmar transmission are particular about having oil to function, and the correct type of oil and viscosity, otherwise they slip or wear the clutch cones.
@murrat5 жыл бұрын
Oil leak was a contributing factor to wear I suspect. Thanks for your posts. Todd.

@murrat8 жыл бұрын
So far I'm happy with the Zeus2. Wind, depth, and temp all working perfect. This will be my second year with this system. The screen is really bright for daytime use.Canada doesn't have a supplier, so it's expensive to import from the US. If I had to do it again, I would have went with a Raymarine systems as they are readily available here. My main reason for the Zeus2 was sail steer. I think Raymarine might be doing something similar now.
@Expedition_Tranquilo8 жыл бұрын
+Todd Murray Thanks. Why would you have gone with the Raymarine? Depending on which yacht we get will determine the instruments. Dufour 460 has Raymarine, Hanse 455 has B&G. Do like the look of the B&G Sailsteer.
