I’ve never had condensation behind the seats. I’m wondering if the vents behind your seat might be dislodged. I covered mine with the acoustic stuff. Does the Zen unit provide leads going back to factory’s speakers to power the speakers with the new amp ?
@timothymatthews3894 Жыл бұрын
No, the harness from pac audio connect (link in description) allows you to tie into the factory wiring harness that goes to the speakers. You plug it into the connector that used to be hooked to the factory amp, then other end goes to the speaker outputs on the new amp. The zen unit takes output signals from the headend and creates rca inputs that plug into the input side of the new amp.

Tuning you need to find out where your head unit clips at. Then place your volume at that which in my 2020 Ford F150 is 27 so I place my volume at 26 with the bass knob all the way up and then tune the amps.

@JasonWW200011 ай бұрын
@@timothymatthews3894The factory head unit has a built-in EQ curve to help the factory speakers give a smooth frequency response. When you change out the speakers the frequency response is it going to be a little out of whack. There's no doubt that a good DSP that's tuned for your particular speakers will elevate the sound quality to the next level. If you're satisfied with the sound quality you currently have then you're probably fine. If in the future you ever wanted to improve the sound, then consider adding a DSP and having it tuned by a professional. 👍
@timothymatthews389410 ай бұрын
@@JasonWW2000 Jason, thank you for that response. Nobody has ever explained it to me like that. It makes a lot of sense. Although I’m very happy with my current setup, I do notice that some music that is,complex, has trouble being reproduced properly. The ability to reproduce a Full range of music from highs to lows is very important to me. I will try adding a dsp this summer. I’ll probably have to put it under the seat since I’ve used most of the real-estate behind the seat. Any recommendations on brand/model?? Thank you for enlightening me!!
@JasonWW200010 ай бұрын
@@timothymatthews3894 This can get pretty complex. So far it looks like you are only using 5 channels total. Front L and R, rear L and R and sub. Assuming you want to keep things as they are using passive crossovers, then you only need a 6 channel dsp. These are the most common. You might want to talk to your installer to see what dsp they recommend. Find out if they can tune with an rta. If so, they can recommend one they are used to tuning. If they are not able to rta tune then you'll need to find someone who has the gear and knowledge to tune it. They might recommend a dsp they are familiar with. I know JL Audio has the TWK 88 which is an 8 channel dsp. I don't know much about that unit, but I've heard it's a quality unit. Runs about $550. You'd basically run the rca cables from the Zen to the dsp and then from the dsp to the amp.
@JasonWW200010 ай бұрын
The tuner person is basically going to set up their microphone and RTA to analyze the sound coming from your speakers and can fine-tune your crossovers and equalization to eliminate any large peaks or dips in the frequency response. Once the response curve is looking and sounding really good you can go into the time alignment section. By taking some distance measurements you can add a time delay to the channels so that the image is best for the driver seat, the passenger seat or the front seat in general. I have a tendency to use two presets that are identical except that the time alignments are flipped. This allows me to use preset one for the driver seat and sounds amazing to me. If I want to give someone in the passenger seat a demo I switch to preset two which has the time alignment perfect for them. And then I might do a third preset that I can just play around with. That's the great thing about dsps. Most dsps have some type of controller that you can mount up front and use it for a variety of things. Some can be a master volume, subwoofer level or preset selector. I know the TWK 88 has a controller that's included. Most modern dsp are adjusted on a laptop. Some have phone apps. I've been using an Alpine dsp for the last 15 years. If I decide to replace it I'll probably go with a Helix unit. Other good brands are Audio Control and Arc Audio.

Question on the carpet behind the seat. Once you move the box and the wires up, where you able to put the full carpet back or did you have to cut it where the sub is?
@timothymatthews38942 жыл бұрын
Hey Brent, I just put it back. I was going to cut it but found that I could just smash everything in there. The only spot where it looks a little funny is where they have a molded hump in the carpet that now gets pushed in. It behind the seat so it doesn’t matter much. Not sure if that makes sense.
