I have the original VHS of this. The box is titled Dawn Riders (which is what I always referred to it as) but the actual movie intro (which is missing from this video) was titled '"Dawn Racers" a film by Eugene Finley Copyright 1986 by Finley Films'

Nice! I found the same VHS in my dad’s collection - and only knew it by that Title too. Someone was wondering about the film, so had to digitize and put up. Did you ride? Gene Finley was a near neighbor here in Bolinas and said he was going to remaster it, but moved to France and passed a few years ago. 🫡 Growing up I’d hear them every Sunday morning across the Lagoon. And Oliver Sacks the Neurologist / Author who wrote ‘Awakenings’ wrote about riding it when interning (?) in SF. Good book - cover is of him on his R60. Thanks for the info! Never would’ve thought. 🏍️💨 (And toning down the title - Reminds me that George Lucas changed the name from ‘Revenge’ of the Jedi to ‘Return’ of the Jedi (because they’re not vengeful ;-)

Whoof - missed your Q. It was made by Eugene Finley of Bolinas... who (along with the rest of Bolinas) heard the 'morning call' every Sunday

I've had copies of the development footage for this video for nearly 35 years. My friends who were involved with the filming are no longer with us. I'm pleased beyond belief to find that the video was completed. The aerial shots are outstanding. Thanks for sharing this.

My formative motorcycling years were spent focused on Sundays in Marin County, riding the “Sunday Morning Ride”. It was fantastic and terrible idea all at the same time. I’m so lucky to have survived, since not everyone did, but I’m glad I did it.

Look how empty those roads are, and how there's few double yellow lines anywhere! Last time I tried the ride it was crammed with cars, cops, spandex clad assholes of privilege on their damn bicycles and it was miserable, as though no fun was to be allowed there EVER AND FOREVER AGAIN! I really miss the Easter morning ride, last I heard the turnout was pretty low. I miss the bay area riding scene, the coast roads and all the great and fun people, but I fear a lot of that is gone now, choked with SUV's and bicycles. This film was made in about '87 from the bikes, when I moved back to SF and started riding north. It's now a period piece, showing what once was when people were left to do their own thing, before everyone was filled with rage against anyone else having fun. Oh well, there's the gold country and the sierra nevada range, those highways are still amazing and fun, little towns here and there, beautiful country and tolerant people and endless trails to explore.

I only recenty found out about this motorcycle and i love it (especially the '30-'40 stile seat) but it has DRUM BRAKES and even on my scuter they're bad,let alone on a 150 kg moto. How long it takes you to stop from 100 km with both brakes on ? How manny do they produced ? Are they easy to find ? How much does it cost one with functioning mecanics even if it takes a bit of care ?

Hi buddy, would you take an advise from an old timer ? I guess you said yes, so here it is, your gear box will be almost noiseless if when going up instead one step you do it in 2 quick steps, quickly pausing at half way. Also, when down shifting release the throttle and quickly rev it up while down shifting in a single stroke, then release both the throttle and the clutch lever, keep going that way until you accelerate again or downshift the same way. About the brakes, they can not be compared with today´s brakes, but BMW twins were the best braking bikes of their time. Thanks for posting this beauty and take care.
