Watching from Brazil here. I'm in the middle of a guitar build myself (my second). One cannot have enough tools. To your wife I say this: approve the purchase, then, ask him to make something exclusively to you using said purchase. See, win-win. Peace and long life! 🖖

Any skilled luthier understands that the choice of wood type and shape significantly influences the guitar's tone and sound. They also recognize the importance of intonating the guitar body to the note A (440 Hz) to ensure a well-tuned instrument that performs optimally. This involves meticulously shaping the guitar body until the desired tonal quality is achieved. Crafting a guitar is not merely woodworking; it requires a deep understanding of acoustics and the mechanics of sound.

Well, acoustic guitars for sure. But electrics, not so much. I’ve seen too many epoxy guitars, steel guitars, shovel and box guitars, pallet guitars etc. They all sound good, subjectively. At least to my ears after playing for 25 years. But yes, the wood choice and binding shaping is important in *acoustic guitars.

Idk if you watch 731 wood working, but he did a montage of 3 hours of tips. He tested paste wax & mould release on his bar clamps for glue and they both work. It'll leave a stained color from the glue but he showed how he could just pick it off with his finger nails, plus it helps them slide better

Fantastic design. Because large thicknessers are expensive, hobbyist guitar makers construct a guide rail sled to flatten oversized body blanks.

A beautiful job with a great choice of woods. I recommend sorting the bearings in your bench drill as the chuck is not running true ( an easy fix ) and get yourself a 1/4" (6mm) 10 tpi skip tooth bandsaw blade and you will be able to cut out a whole body with one pass, instead of taking all those bites at it. Great job and excellent video, keep up the good work !!!
@TheWoodenHobbyist
@TheWoodenHobbyist 2 күн бұрын
I definitely need to update my drill press forsure. I purposely do no use a small blade because I hate change blades out on the bandsaw. I keep a resaw king on it because my main use for the bandsaw is resawing and ripping. Also, thanks for the compliments!

I made my first guitar's neck out of maple, because I this is what I see as a standard for guitar necks. Then I decided to experiment with the next build: oak is readily available here, and it is about tenth of the price of maple. It turned out beautiful, it's color and grain is so nice. I liked it so much that I've used oak for the all my builds after that. One drawback of oak is that it's really hard and heavy, so maybe the balance of the guitar will be off because of the weight of the neck. I also read somewhere that oak sawdust is really toxic.
@TheWoodenHobbyist
@TheWoodenHobbyist 2 күн бұрын
Maple is hard and heavy as well! But I agree, oak is stunning and I believe any wood can be toxic depending on the condition it’s in.
