It would be better to just put a closet door latch on the inside instead of the locking pins. This would allow the resident to quickly open the door from the inside and firefighters to break the cover with a lot less axe swings. You want to dumb things down so that even a child can escape during an emergency.

This makes me really uncomfortable in the case of a fire. Time, and due to panic often common sense, is often terribly lacking during emergencies.
