You're so kind!!! I sometimes realize that those wonderful song writers are not as well known to folks in general as the top 40 heroes, but it means EVERYTHING to me when someone with great musical taste appreciates a song from those wonderful Texans. ( and Warren)

Thanks! I'm trying to learn more about recording. My singing isn't very strong, so I'm trying to learn new recording techniques.

I agree! Usually I avoid playing or performing his songs, because he had such a wonderful voice, and my voice is pretty rough. But this song means so much to me. Since I was a child, I always would think about how I understood what kind of people he was singing about, and I hoped I was someone who cared about others like that.

@@DBMangum I don’t even remember, and don’t really want to, how old I was when I first succumb to that iconic Sundown beat. A radio ( batt.) on a picnic table at state park was emitting it and I was instantly addicted. Being only about 10 or 12 at the time , I had no idea what the song was about, but figured it out later on in life. He truly was the Painter . One of a kind for sure. He was my inspiration for the guitar, and taught me Travis picking all those great Gordchords. I even got lucky and acquired # 53 of 61, if You know what I’m speaking of? Sorry to ramble on , I like to talk about this stuff!

I know what you mean! I'm working on picking more correctly. I put down my guitar for 20 years, and I'm trying to figure it all out again. Now I'm trying to work through some injuries to my thumb and arthritis. I hate getting old. I'm looking at a surgery that's supposed to help. I've also experimented with "clawhammer" style like on a banjo. Anyway. I'm enjoying the struggle.

@DBMangum I'm self-taught fingerstyle and always played "incorrectly"and now having trouble learning thumb pick playing. Arthritis and trigger finger are cramping my style. Getting old ain't for sissies.

Very sorry! Certainly not my intention to hurt or offend by singing a song. I do need to point out though, that we're not trying to sound like Del Shannon. Everybody has a different approach to music, I understand that, but we just try to play and sing songs in our own way, and learn a little more about it every day. Hope you find what you like!

@@DBMangum Don't listen to that guy. I honestly enjoyed the creativity behind it. It seemed to me like it was a blues type of spin on it. Good playing! That dude probably doesn't play an instrument. He can't comprehend the artistic nature of your performance, can't hold it against him. Keep Rockin'
