LoL it's been a while since this was made but a friend of mine does make the collars so you can use other dops in the raytech
@MikeG-js1jt Жыл бұрын
you can also use an agate burnisher, (much cheaper than a Norbide stick) which is fine, because it is still quite a bit harder than copper and will still burnish the copper..

been faceting for 54 yrs. on all type machines. a simple long enough collar can be used to adapt to 1/4" dops. i make these for my 5 raytech's . [email protected]. new machine is $1950 and laps cheap from china.

no disassembly nor modification is needed with an extended collar, just the collar replaces.

Aren't the dops held tight after tightening the nut on back od dop? Doesn't that secure the dop without movement? I understand it doesn't solve your other dop problem but the dop shouldn't move after tightening nut. I ask because I'm considering this machine.
@michaelzinski69934 жыл бұрын
yes it does lock it tight, but there is an add-on collar which allows you to adjust the position/notch of location pin on dop to position stone and align, that fits over end of quill, i make them too. [email protected]

the little two allen collar can be replaced with a extended collar to use a regular dop with.

Do you use this bearing for other grit diamond, or do you dedicated just for 5his grit?
@woozhi92184 жыл бұрын
Better to separate the grit are still harder then thenbearing so it could in theory embed onto the lap as well as the bearing but make sure your lap should be softer then the mateeial thay you are gonna lap and the charging tool should be harder then the lap plate or as hard or even harder them the lapping compound
@kseibert604 жыл бұрын
Can I use the bearing to charge another lap with 3000 or do I need to use a new bearing?
@woozhi92184 жыл бұрын
To be safe use different bearing or wash and brush the bearing with metal brush

anyone stumbling on this video, his demonstration is wrong. This gentleman's video is a much better tutorial: kzbin.info/www/bejne/hYGqnH-qnLF2qNU Burnishing should be done before the diamond is added. The whole point of burnishing is to work harden the copper surface so the diamond does not embed itself all the way into the soft copper. The diamond need to be stuck in the copper but sticking out enough to cut your work without leaving copper streaks in that work.

Just a suggestion but you can add an extension to the dops . little hobby lathe face off the dops drill and tap. Add an extension with the same threads as the raytech on the back. You make them the same length.

@tjrank17 жыл бұрын
It sounds like you have both, an Ultra-tech faceter and the Raytech Shaw. Which one is better and easier to use?
@michaelzinski69934 жыл бұрын
both depending on what you want to do. exotic and museum, collector stones the ultra tec. stones on a more production bases the raytech/shaw. with a riser platform very large stones can be cut on the ultra where as about 30mm is max on raytech. after cutting for 54 yrs these two machines are the only ones i recommend and longest lasting with accuracy.

Thanks for going into the details as you did. Question: I noticed you changed the speed a few times. Being a spinning circle the actual speed is low towards the center and increases towards the edge I would think you could use a higher rpm when your pressing in the central zone then lower your rpm's as you work towards the edge. I guess the question is just how much speed matters, maybe not that much? If a faceting machine were like a belt sander then it would all be the same.

Hey great setup. Dont know if you have done your mod to raytech yet, I know im 2 year late, but the way I would do is to either have one made at a machine shop out of aluminum or buy heavy duty thick walled aluminum tubing with the same diameter as the collet drill two holes one to lock the new collet in place and one to lock the dop to it. You drill the holes the same size as the screw then you have to tap them with a tap and die set. and there you go. good luck.
