I feel really bad for Kalina (and maybe a little confused why the story went that way?) at the end there, it seemed to me like she was doing her very best to protect Cassandra during JY and work around the curse and mind control to help the Bad Kids, even snapping her own neck (!!) to do so, and she ends up being pointed at as the villain

The theory I saw is that since belief affects gods, it could be the same thing for Kalina. Since the BKs don’t trust her and belief she’s still evil, that’s how she’s manifesting

God this is soooo good watching after the newest episode of junior year Riz: why do you work for the nightmare king? Kalina: why? Is that an honest question? He grants me unlimited power. All that I am and all that I’m capable of doing he gave to me. Do you really not understand why a person would do things that benefit them? There’s something so delicious in knowing that kanlina has to obey the nightmare king aka Cassandra but at this point. She kinda likes this better than normal lol. I’m so interested to see how this will turn out in junior year. She was ACTIVELY keeping the nightmare king up, she wanted all this power at the cost of her god hurting. I see you shadow cat~

So there’s a part of the betsumon drawing I didn’t notice at first but like. An artist made a whole decision Them all lusting over the bitcoin island mascot character drawn in a different style did break me in a way ive never recovered from. I know she's a teen, but Ruby is played SO utterly selfish at the funeral. She acts like Caramelinda is 'blaming' Jet for her own death, when Caramelinda is just distraught that her daughter is dead because she never heeded her warnings-- and she's completely right.

@@KaelWrit Yes, but that doesn't excuse her behavior. I was younger than Ruby and blamed my mother for a lot of the same things, but I grew up and was then able to see her perspective, and that I was in the wrong as much as I had my right. Caramelinda, like every character in A Crown of Candy, is a complex character with layers of plots and emotion. I really love how she's written. A survivor of a series of traumas and devastation desperately trying to prevent that from happening to herself and the people around her. But Ruby is also an interesting character in and of herself. She is a reckless, privileged teenager who wants to be free, and only realizes why all those walls were up in the first place when her sister died. She is absolutely selfish, as any teenager raised from privilege to war would be, but by the end of this compilation specifically she shows compassion for not wanting to lose any more family. In a way they are kinda perfect parallels of one another, a mix of grief, lashing out, and desperately trying to protect themselves and their loved ones. Ruby can be a selfish teenager and a compassionate sister at the same time. Caramelinda can be a strict mother and a terrified survivor at the same time. None of this has to exist as villain or hero, good or evil, and that is what makes A Crown of Candy so good. The layers upon layers of building so it all looks grey, and you can understand and find interest in any character's perspective.
