Very cool. I am looking at returning home. So very cool to see there are clubs to join not far from where I grew up.

Great to see a there is still a model railway group in Hastings! I was a member of the Hastings MRC from 1963 until the late 1960’s, if memory serves me right, when we formed the Heretaunga MRC. Old names from those days, both clubs, were Russell Smith, Ian Malloch, Snow Newrick, Bill Richmond, Neville Rapley, and from Napier, Roger Heiford, Bruce Kidby and Alan Bellamy. We had a couple of Hobby Shows over the years, one at the what is now Hastings Art Gallery.

There was never enough interest in the passenger side of it so it was shelved. As for the freight side, there in very little that would justify getting the line back in business. Trucks do all the logs now, and a lot cheaper and more efficiently than the rail apparently. Rail passenger runs are very few in NZ. Very few people are interested and the costs are high. For the few people it would offer work for in the long term it is not worth it. What is more important, why can't they use the Napier to Wairoa corridor as the base for a new highway instead of that awful section of road?

I literally had tears running down my face watching this. I was brought up in Waipukurau from 1978 to 1986, and I have a lot of memories regarding this Hospital. I used to deliver the newspaper to patients, visit so many people.

Possible mating attempt? But what I am assuming is the female wasn’t feeling up to it and kept on eating, so the male gave up

I live surrounded by pukeko, also known as the Australasian Swamp hen. They are the most fascinating birds. Wonderful with their chicks and their their crèches. The most social of all birds i believe.

That brings back memories of visiting NZ in 2019 and 2022, have they finished the Kapiti expressway past Otaki yet? It must be one of the slowest builds on record, quite well on the way in 2019 and 2022 not much different. I quite liked Levin and visited an excellent classic car show there in 2019
