In the same way Communist China pursuded prosperity offered by invitations to US trade, the people of China are attracked to prosperity and freedom. Tell me again why this good man was never an advisor to the US Gov? WHy not?

John Mearsheimer’s thinking is inconsistent. He has clear military indoctrination as a young man and Christian indictrination from his childhood. While he has been trained to be a war mongerer by the military, he also quips the fair play “what’s good for the goose is good for the gander”. It’s as if various different indoctrinations have left their mark on his psyche, but put together they form contradictions. Why, for example, should China roll over and let the US be the hegemon? (West Point military college). But then he thinks Israel is a big bully and should give the Palestinians their statehood in the West Bank (mother’s “goose and gander”, and maybe some anti-Jewish sentiment?). Why shouldn’t the Palestinians roll over and let Israel be the hegemon? Why is Russia a more suitable ally, according to Mearsheimer, than China (sinophobia, xenophobia?) Mearsheimer is praised and quoted by many peaceniks for his opposition to the Ukraine war, but he really is not a peacenik. He believes there is “peace through strength”, like Jens Stoltenberg’s “we will have peace in Ukraine when we give Zelensky more fighter jets and missiles”. This is the opposite of what peaceniks think. We believe that role-modelling non-aggression will make the world a safer place. Mearsheimer wants to make the world a safer place, but he still believes that bullies are natural and should be encouraged. Someone should interview him on his true philosophy. Maybe he needs counselling.

Ultimately Mearsheimer is a hammer that sees everything standing up as a nail. The makes for a tidy theory to write books and give lectures but is not a valid universal theory of history or nations.

China was very tolerant of Hong Kong demonstrations (more than any western decorscy including the USA) until it turned violent and rhetoric turned separatist. This does not fit with Mearsheimer's US centric narrative.

Professor John Mearsheimer I greatly congratulate you for inventing International Relations Theory variant of Realism Structural Realism that has helped explain why the USA behaves the way it does, and why the USA is a war economy. Much respect for your intellectual contribution to the world of International Relations.

No-the situation in Australia is that Australia via its media its politicians and its band of foreign foreign policy advisors has chosen to promote the US anti-China agenda of containing China, hurling insults at China and promoting hatred for China and its people.
