Thanks, yes it was a great deal of pre-production and though it was stated as 5 days (that line was recorded on day 1) we did have a half day for some pick-ups but don't tell anyone!

@@Josh-wu7kc The budget was in the 10K area. We deferred our rates considerably for this production as we are proud to be involved in important messaging. The NRFC also collaborated with 11 of the 12 regional districts for funding.

​@@Miniscapes515yup...that moral turpitude is a real catch 22, especial for the Fire Camp returning citizens who for DECADES have fought wildfires in California. People have no clue what happens when it comes to you or them. People can actually be trained and be working in actual fires, saving property, saving lives potentially...and still be judged not good enough. People have no idea that even if you got that expunged that doesn't mean to have to accept your application for consideration. I'M AN INTERNATIONAL prisoner and human rights advocate for 38 years. MY Popo when he was alive was for most of his life a volunteer firefighter in NYS, but way downstate from Niagra Falls! It's true , recruitment and retention are huge challenges for the vollunteer fire departments. And with nfpa requirements it is a much larger commitment than the old days.

@@engineco.1494 Being in a volunteer department for 26 years i see it across my county and the neighboring ones also. Some areas are blessed. One person said I was being nihilistic. I don't think so, just stating what i see. To be honest, I had to research the word.

Its not nihilistic at all, in fact is very true. Volunteer here also, and I've seen first hand how difficult it is to get new people in. While volunteerism in the fire service is certainly a dying breed, even paid departments have a hard time with retention. Unfortunately it's hard to find people nowadays who are willing to give up their time to their community. Not like it was 30 some odd years ago.

@@robertmahoney5523 That isn't specific to fire fighting. This is a global phenomenon; people are looking for things that put food on their tables long enough to eat it.

Like anything individually or in a team environment we have our strengths and weaknesses that we play to our advantage. Ontario requires nfpa certification so many departments offer the corruiculum as well as testing. The education alone is worth thousands.

@@engineco.1494 My department will send people to any training put on by the state fire academy at our expense. The biggest complaint from existing volunteers is there isn't enough training, but almost none of them take the county up on this. Its... interesting.

@@seanmahoney2671 yes we have the same problem as well. My department will pay us to go the provincial fire college but most don't enroll in any courses. I myself take full advantage of the training and courses offered. Iron sharpens iron.

First off stop calling paid, unionized firefighters “professional”! They do not have a regulating body known as a “college” overseeing their “profession”! NFPA standards are required of ALL fire departments in Ontario. All must meet those requirements not just the paid, unionized firefighters.
