The megaslow software, the lack of innovation, cheapness killed Siemens. As a pubert and teenager I had a few Siemens phones due to their cheap prices, so I had not much choices 😅 C45 was my first phone, I loved it. 2 years later I got an MC60 and I was so happy, however the screen and speed was already strange, the casing was low quality. Then came the C70 what was my last Siemens. That phone was a nightmare, the speed of it was slower than ever, it was obvious there were better offers on the market for the same pocket price range. The issue, even their highend phones were not too good, regardless the nice designs..... Samsung , LG, Nokia and SE were was ahead in every aspects. Siemens did well till the 45/55 series, after they lost it.

Brew a cup of coffee (or tea) if you want to read my comment as it will be long: There were many mistakes during acquisition of Siemens Mobile by BenQ and after that. 1. Rumors say that Siemens concealed some informations in order to sell its strugling mobile division as fast as possible. 2. Informations about phones in development were leaked. 3. BenQ-Siemens continued with the same top-management that got Siemens Mobile into financial trouble (focus on cheap phones with low margins, stupid and expensive experiment with XELIBRI, no MP3 support in S65 even when Siemens was first to have phone with MP3 and hot-swappable MMC card back in 2000….) So the same people who were in large part responsible for €1.5 to €2.0 million loss a day continued doing the same now with BenQ's money. 4. Inferior asian firmware and questionable design in later models (or even just blatantly rebranded BenQ models) alienated european customers. What was BenQ thinking? That 4th. mistake turned away even die-hard Siemens fans like me. Some went to HTC with Windows Mobile - the ones with sliding QWERTY were popular choice. Some went to our Finnish Nemesis: Nokia with Symbian S60 was kicking hard with N95 and N-series in general and it was also the last pure european brand. Some went to Japano-Swedish joint-venture Sony Ericsson as the second most customizations-friendly platform after Siemens. Few went to Motorola for slim design. But nobody from my circles went to Samsung or LG because they were generic crap comparable to then already small and struggling Sagem or Alcatel. The only reason Samsung made some name in Europe long years before Android boom and generic slabs was because clamshells (invented by Motorola - google for Motorola StarTAC) and sliders (invented by Siemens - google for Siemens SL10). Are you asking about Sharp? It was "that exotic japanese brand" that nobody in Europe really cared about. For later-born and uneducated or ignorant in history of cellphones: No sane person went to Apple in 2007 because iPhone matured in 2012 with iPhone 5 (2G, 3G and 3GS were useless toys and 4 was somewhat usable but still had that silly Apple 30-pin dock connector). It had potential. But it was wasted…
