Удивила! Какое ровное звучание, редко встретишь такой вокал сегодня! Не вымерли значит ещё настоящие педагоги, как мамонты.

Beautifully sung, but I don't like the director's additions and changes. Bassa Selim isn't supposed to speak bad German or speak any language but German in the opera. If you want realism, then Constanze would have to speak Spanish, as would Blonde (though English might be fitting), Pedrillo and Belmont. Constanze is, like her name, constant and faithful. She would never give in to temptation and get so close to Bassa Selim as indicated here. Another case of directors trying to improve on perfection, and ending up going the other way.

Wow, what a production! But, however controversial, Verdi remains great and his Don Carlos is given an outstanding performance in this production, from cast, orchestra, conductor.

This aria is deliciously pornographic. The fornicatious beat after recitative, melody and of course, climax. Mozart's genius. Gentlemen, if you're doing it right, this is how this lady will sing...

Mozart, un genio della musica che rimarra eterno nel tempo! Gli artisti odierni invece, saranno per fortuna dimenticati, come se non fossero mai esistiti.

It’s very interesting that Cornelia seems to feel pity for Acillia. Because I’ve never seen this production, and I’ve never seen any production that Cornelia seems to feel sadness to Acillia’s death. Am I the only one who interpreted like this?

I dearly miss Lorraine Hunt (Lieberson). Peter Sellars is a GENIUS. His production of Handel’s “Theodora” is an absolute masterpiece, the DVD of it, a MUST-HAVE (also with Lorraine Hunt as Irene).

This certainly was an exciting era of singing with individual, identifiable voices. Also. a time when the MET featured duet pairings in concert: ie Leontyne Price and Marilyn Horne. It was a thrilling moment on television, too. Im so thankful for these posts!

I'm so old. I saw this, live, at the Met, in this, the first production. It may not be the greatest Verdi opera, but it's certainly one of the longest. Yes, it is excellently done. Troyanos does a wonderful job. Would you expect anything else from her? But so does the disgraced James Levine. And so does Betsy Norden, who seems never to forget that she is playing a part. I'm a theatrical director, by the way. You can look up Deloss Brown and see why I have particular prejudices. I'm very glad this is on line, and I look at it often. It's perhaps my favorite piece of Verdi. I'm a Bach-Brahms-Wagner person.
