I was in Coast Guard Aviation back in 1978ish and when I arrived on the island a couple CG guys said we are going to Termination Point come with us. it was night, there was no trail going out there don't know how they found there way but when we got there we went all the way out and laid down in the grass and watched the satellites pass over us, I thought they were UFOs. Right before going out on the point there was a cabin there and we use to go there all the time and stay overnight.. I remember the beaver pond on the way towards termination point and couple of guys built a little hothouse to get heated up in and jump in the pond in the wintertime. Great memories in Kodiak. It was like the wild west back then. We use to hitch hike from the base into town stop in the bars on the way through and then hitch hike down to the end of the road with our packs and guns and chain saw. You could go into the bars with your gun as long as it wasn't loaded but nobobdy checked anything. I remember this one guy tried to start our chainsaw up in the bar.

Enjoyed the video very much! Looking to do the MABDR this year. Was the jeep able to ride the same route as the bikes? Looks like pretty tame riding. What section was the most “aggressive” and how was Tub Run?

Thanks for the comment. I don’t remember any difficult sections including tub run. All pretty tame. A few water crossing. Jeep did same route and all sections. Roads very well maintained. Have a great trip.

Greg LeBlanc I am looking for a classic style bike to navigate the trails at Big Bend. I'm really interested in the Triumph Scramblers. I would like to be able to transport in the bed of my 2019 Ford Ranger Pickup which is a mid size truck with a 5ft bed so I am kind of leaning towards the Scrambler 900. I was wondering if that would be enough bike to traverse the terrain there. Not worried about heavy dirt bike riding, just mainly for the views and secret hiding places that you can only get to with a bike. What do you guys think? Anyone with experience with the Scramblers? 900, 1200 CX or 1200 EX? Any advice on a bike? My biggest obstacle is the 5' bed length to transport from Katy, TX to Big Bend.
@fluff-productions

Greg, I am not familiar with these bikes. I would say that the roads in this video are very representative of what’s around Terlingua. Some are very wash-boardy. If you are mainly interested in the National Park there is quite a bit of pavement throughout. I have only been there once so there are probably a lot of places I haven’t hit yet. May be back there next year. Best of luck.

Thanks Mike. Bikes are Brompton. You can look them up online. They are sold in a few stores in US, we got ours in Salt Lake City years ago. But they are made across the pond in England I believe. They are a very well made bike but also very pricey. We love them and take them with us on most all our trips...even took them to New Zealand. I have never come across a better folding bike. We recently added a Swytch Kit (swytchbike.com) and made them e-bikes.

Great video. Just purchased Kevin's tracks and plan to do this summer 2022. Summer 2021 I did MABDR/TAT on a DR650. I'll be taking a bigger bike on the CD. Question, did you stay on the blue tracks or did you take green/red as well. Thanks
@fluff-productions
@fluff-productions 2 жыл бұрын
Steve thanks for the comment. We were riding with various skill levels so we did a variety but I would say mostly blue/green. We did ride down one of the most challenging sections in Montana (fleecer ridge). Although the videos tend to flatten this out it is pretty steep with lots of loose big and small rock. Depending on skill level I would say this would be pretty challenging on any bike going up, but doable on a bigger bike going down (south). (You can also get off the main track in the grass where you can slow yourself down. It is difficult to slow down in the loose rock as you just slide due to the steepness.) Of course I can't speak to the southern section since we started in Colorado and went North and back to CO. We were planning to do the MABDR this year but it got cancelled like most things in 2021. Hope you have a great ride this summer.
