Cool to see all the different model kites and how they perform consistently. Great flying 👍

Coming back to this video, my favorite moments are the octagon, the tree branch rolling by in 40-ish MPH winds, and flying next to the flags in calm air.

Does your website still work? I was trying to review things like your lighting system and other details you might share. But the site wouldn't load. Let me know and I'll check it out.

I've got a writeup from 2019 at bryanwagstaff.com/index.php/building-my-kite-lights/ that covers how I did them. In 2021 I made some kites with the LED strips permanently attached, see bryanwagstaff.com/index.php/some-kites-for-the-lights/. I still occasionally tinker with the software that drives the lights.

Wowzers! What a handful to grasp…arduino rigs to custom programming. 😳 A little beyond my skill set but your dedication is very admirable. Butterfly mode is my fave too:) Rainbow/power drain mode made me giggle 🤭

lol so i had to look at it a couple of times just to catch a glimpse of everyone's kite and technique. After the first minute buddy with the american flag kite had a hard time with everyone around him. lol like the light up sneakers. got to find me a pair.

The light-up shoes are part of Mario Di Lucca's LED outfit and illuminated kites. Here was his solo 2023 performance: kzbin.info/www/bejne/qni6nnafrrCWpac Search for his name to find his 2019 and 2020 performances that were also featuring an LED costume and illuminated indoor kites.

@3:56 the walk of shame, but I like that it is a much shorter walk indoors. Nice flying.

That's a benefit of indoor. 12-foot lines are just a few steps away. Usually I'll just tug on the lines, but sometimes those steps are needed.

Looks like 4:50 is a pretty decent axel. I also managed to pick up the small plastic disk/cone I use for wingtip target practice at 18:15, otherwise it looks like it mostly stays hidden by the uneven ground as I played with it for another five minutes.

That had to have been a drastic transition for Adam going between those kites. From long lines and floaty to short lines and snappy in an instant. Exceptional work by the ground crew as well 👍👍

Yes, quads and duals. Dual lines first, I put off buying my first quad due to cost, but eventually got the quad line bug and fly them too.

That move you are doing "reverse axel" will teach u how to flare the kite for the "slot-machine" trick which u r really are close to doing.. you'll notice that in order to get that "axel" you are doing you need to sort of set it up with a pause (stall) .. the little pop youre doing is perfect. KEEP AT IT!

I know Im late to the party. Can you point me to what sleeving line I need for 50-90# flying line. I cant find what type of line and size to buy as sleeving, I have black and white Shanti sleeve but can not find others, I would really like to get what you have there White/red and White/black. But without know the size and type I am having a tough time sourcing sleeving material. Also do you know any other sources for 100# "Bridle" line other than Laser Pro? I can only find a single source for laser pro and am looking for better options. the DIY world seems to be dyeing off everything is single use. Buy a ready made line set, buy ready made bridle sets. Sheesh I like to do things myself its more fun. Thank you for your help.

I don't think there are weights of sleeving line. It doesn't provide support for line tension, instead it thickens the knot. For colors I've seen various shops carry black, white, red, and blue, plus with threaded colors like in this clip, plus I've seen some sleeve in neon colors. I can't remember if I got that specific line from AWindOfChange.com or KitesAndFunThings.com, you can contact both and ask what they have in stock. There are plenty of other great shops that sell bulk line, so also check local and shop around to see what shops have on hand and what they cost. Regarding bridle line, Kites and Fun Things has several strengths of it and AWOC might as well, again, contact them for what they have in stock or can order. Other major stores likely have it in stock or can order it for you. If you only need one then ready-made sets are great. If you need many of them made, there is a cost savings overall but a big cost to the bulk purchases up front. You might be looking at $80-$100 for a single premade 120' quad line set (the standard team flying length), or $350 for the materials to make six line sets, plus time to actually create them including pre-stretching, measuring, cutting, sleeving, balancing, and winding.

@@bryanskiteflying Thank you for your reply. I have dealt with A Wind of Change before and I'll give them a call. I appreciate it. A reason I was looking for bulk is that I am working on DIY kites and was looking for these supplies to make custom Bridles and Fly lines.

I never heard a turtle hiss quite like this. He was tangled up pretty good. I had to flip it over so he would stop moving and to gain access to where the line had wrapped around him. (I've handled turtles before, I used two hands, holding from the sides, careful to grip both top and bottom.) It took about a minute to untangle his claw, he didn't like it and I didn't want to get my fingers anywhere near biting range.

@38:45 She did an accidental slackline trick. She said she started losing control, then remembered that I would sometimes do that type of motion for tricks, and that it worked to regain control. Whatever works I guess.

@bryanskiteflying
@bryanskiteflying 5 жыл бұрын
The kite's microcontroller has a list of all the color palettes and animation patterns, and transmits the lists (and additional information) through Bluetooth. An app I wrote for the tablet connects through Bluetooth and reads the lists, then sends selections back over to the kite.

Thanks, I'll consider it. The lights are a work in progress and something to tinker with, this is the third iteration on hardware. I've spent far more money on this project than I wanted; originally (the first edition) it was something fun to do with a $100 gift card received in the fall. I know lights are popular, I've been reading old kiting magazines from the 1980s and 1990s and they had plenty of ads for lights even back then.

In the mean time, I'm open to suggestions about more color palettes and animations. The motion-based animation patterns are still quite rough on this version of the hardware so I don't show them here. They were smooth on v2, but with v3 they need work. Those still need someone with an interest in tinkering on the hardware and programming.
