The Pepper's Ghost effect is a special effects technique that creates transparent ghostly images by reflecting the image of a ghost off of a sheet of plexiglass. It has been popularized by John Pepper in the 1800s and is commonly used by stage illusionists to make objects or people appear and disappear. The hidden room is often the mirror image of the background, and by changing the lighting of the two rooms, you can change which one is more visible to the audience. This technique is also used to create "holographic" stage performances.1 A Pepper's Ghost Hologram is a super neat effect created by placing a display out of view and then projecting into a transparent mirror known as a beamsplitter mirror. It uses an animation on a black background to create a floating image in midair.
