The design cues shared with the ‘82 XS400 R, also referred to as a SECA, is interesting.

Pistons arent supposed to be the exact size of the bore on the head. Thats what the rings are for, to hold the piston steady and allow lubrication. Just buy a piston and head in a set together. They are cheap as hell

Love the old side valve B&S's. Look after them and they last forever........... Mind you, they seem to still last for ever even if you don't look after them. :D I'm actually looking for an old 5hp lump at the minute. I want to connect one up to an alternator to make an emergency 12v charger for if the power goes out for an extended period here and my DIY battery/inverter power banks need topping up. It's a shame I'm somewhere between 3500 and 5000 miles away from you or I might have been asking what you have kicking about that you wanted to sell. :D

A rlv box stock 1" slip on is probably the best muffler if you havent done valve springs cam and a different carb. Its very difficult to find old stock performance parts for these f200 engines. Arc does still sell a flywheel and rod i think for these engines. The f200 was produced to compete against the brigs intek 205 206 and the honda gx200 as well as the gx200 clones. They was more a race engine yet the down side was the blocks wasnt strong at all over 14ish hp so they did need a lot of bracing imho the f200 is what killed tecumseh since these engines was bad on valve guides as well and wouldn't run right from sucking oil/air from the guide definitely was a race engine and needed rebuilt alot. The good side of these engines is that sbc rockers have the same size 3/8 rocker stud vs the 5/16 that briggs used so small block chevy ratio roller rockers work. Just remember that factory rockers are 1.3 to 1.4 ratio rockers. Also the 5hp and 5.5hp heads do raise a 6 and 6.5hp compression to around 9.5:1 or 10.1. Its been around 10 years since ive even messed with these f200 so some of the stuff on these engines if forgotten especially since they was saught as a trash engine run it a 2 3 race weekends and have to rebuild it most like reliable race engines so briggs over took the racing until hondas gx200 came out. Then the clones started popping up and the old timers didnt like the quality untill guys like jody at arc, Old timer Mr Clements got a hold of them and was giving feedback on what needed to be changed. The whole reason clones have taken over now. Anyways hopefully this long comment helps someone out. Oh an if you didnt know briggs and tecumseh was head and head on who could build the best most badass race engines the really didnt care about the lawn equipment side of things just racing. If a guy could find that article about the 2 i would definitely print it out and laminate it so people could see that tecumseh and briggs was very big into karts over everything else they sold engines for. So now a feller knows!

Yup, had the same shit happen when taking off the plenum of a 1989 Camaro Iroc Z. The Torx was stripped from the previous owner and we tried everything, eventually just knocked the head of the Torx off, grinder a flat surface and used an easy out. Set the project back a whole day bc we didn’t have proper tools 😭
