As a mother of teenagers in the local school districts, and as an employee of the local community college, it is apparent to me that one HUGE piece of the puzzle is missing. That missing piece is the experiential opportunities that our youth do NOT have in our nature parks. I often find myself having to tell e COLLEGE students to PLEASE be careful when I hear they are going on a hike because they have told me that it's there 1st time hiking!

Thank you for telling it like it is. Wild animals should be just that...wild. But if they are to be handled, they should be handled by true professionals such as yourself. It is a 24/7/365 operation. Thank you sir.

i'm 12, and i am starting my lifeguard class in a week, im a little worried i will hold back the class due to the fact im twelve and most people start lifeguard training when they are 13-15, is it alright if i can only swim 20 laps in the pool, is that okay? or should i be able to do more by now?

@MrArrogoth Everyone is lighter in the water. So size and weight aren't as much of an issue. If you're a strong swimmer, have good endurance, and commitment then you can do well as a lifeguard.

@LACountyParks I am sixteen years old. I am 215lb and five feet ten inch tall. Do you think that my size will hold me back? I'm not overweight, just big. Most of it is muscle but there is some fat. I know I am a strong swimmer and I have good instincts. Will my build effect me in this job.

@BackToGoAgain It helps to be a strong swimmer, especially for beach lifeguards where you'll sometimes be fighting currents. But it you're athletic and pratice your swimming until summer then you have a good chance.
