Thank you for the informative video. I just have one question, how unequal flow exactly save energy if it doesn't go through the water heater , because when the water heater has preheated water, it's going to do less work means less energy, which means more saving , but if it doesn't go through it how exactly the energy saving is happening?

How does the bypass valve work? Is it normally open? Normally closed? Does this valve have to be closed to do a proper flush? Rheem tech support is telling people they do not need to ensure the bypass is closed!!! Just unplug the unit and go for it...according to Rheem tech support.

@@lhcskater Nope...the way I'm going to flush it..leave it powered on...cycle the pump...til the water gets warm...then pull the plug and flush it....that way I'm sure it's open

What would you say is a good switch over temperature when using a mini split heat pump with oil as backup?
@Dave-tg1pu2 жыл бұрын
I am happy to see that individual suppliers are addressing the "change over" problem from ASHP to the secondary system. As new products come out that are "universal" or independent of the heat pump brand it would be good to add to the comments for people to investigate. For example the Flair Puck Pro is one option but is best for single indoor units as each indoor unit requires a "puck". This can get quite expensive.

In this training video it states Heat Pump mode is the most efficient at “Very High” However, in the user manual it states Energy Saver mode is “Very High”, while Heat Pump mode is only “High” Taking out the recovery time factor, isn’t Heat Pump only mode by far the most efficient? I’m going to run a test, 1 month in only Heat Pump mode, followed by 1 month is Energy Saver mode, to see the real difference.
@chillin2d88 ай бұрын
how did this test go for you? I just installed this water heater and I am wondering the same. Planning to do the same test.

I have a hot water recirculating pump and vary the temps during the day to line up with my time of use electric rates. I found that Energy Saver mode uses more electricity than Heat Pump mode. In my case roughly 3kW used per day for Heat Pump mode and 4kW used per day for Energy Saver mode. I keep it on Heat Pump mode all the time now

The eco app should have upper and lower tank temperature. Also, if you have a recirculating system, so type of setting to have water heater work right and not a service bulletin saying you should not use pump. The hybrid water heater tech support don’t work weekends and regular electric water heater tech support is 7 day

How do I remove the code 88 permanently? Thanks.
@6251steve3 жыл бұрын
The 88 default setting when you get the unit new is off, it must be activated during installation. It is a timer so every 500 hrs of use about a year and a half it will send an alarm warning you it needs to be serviced. Very easy to flush units with just food grade vinegar and a pump kit. Instructions for flushing are in the installation manual and must be followed to issure water does not run through the bypass valve during flushing.

I like to know if I can use the Hybrid water-heaters for dual purposes which means using the unit for domestic use and to heat my home with a hot water system, zones and circulation pumps? I have already the lines and in place and need to install the plate radiators, the house is well insulated.

what are the default dip switch settings to avoid the code 88 issue????
@6251steve3 жыл бұрын
88 code is a reminder for flushing the unit, a very important feature that keeps efficiency high and makes the unit last much longer. You can turn off the maintenance feature by lowering dip switch # 1 on the upper set of dip switches. I'm a master plumber and owned a plumbing company for 25 years. You can clear the code 88 by pressing the up and down switches on the control panel ( white box that is magnetically attached to unit or remotely mounted that has digital red temperature display) at same time for 5-10 seconds. If you let the unit go and don't clean it eventually you will get a 1L code that will result permanent permanent damage to the heat exchanger. It can still be cleaned and its not terminal but the life expectancy of the unit is greatly reduced. By the way the units don't come with the maintenance feature set. You have to set that dip switch 1 during installation same with the water savings feature.

The "Heat Pump Only" mode is NOT heat pump only. It will also call for electric elements to come on at the same time just like in the High Demand mode. This really sux because it loses it's efficiency when doing so. I called Rheem and they said it must be a glitch or something in the algorithm and they still have not fixed it yet. Sounds like it won't be able to be fixed with an app update either. It's gonna be a hardware issue in the control board. They need to send out new control boards to anyone who has bought one of these in the last 8-9 months or whenever the Gen 5 models came out. The Generator 4 models didn't have this problem.

From what I've heard it turns the resistance elements on once when you first start it with cold water .

i've operated my 80gal hybrid for 3 years now with a recirc pump and i have some feedback for fine tuning these modes. i'm thinking update the firmware if possible or introduce some new modes that combine high demand with energy saving (they are similar already) but there is room for improvement, who should i contact?

How did you plumb your recirculating pump. I’ve recently purchased an 80 gallon and my previous 50 gallon which was gas had the recirculating line plumbed into the drain line.

Hi. Do you use heat pump only with the recirc pump? How is that working out for you? Thanks.
@morejelloplease3 жыл бұрын
@@soota6083 so far so good, it's a few dollars more to run high demand all the time. Only two people in this household and demand is usually low and well timed, so heat pump mode works good enough and keeps the garage cool. I encourage using the schedule feature, you can have it switch modes 4 times in a 24 hour period to really tweak things if you want :)

Does the unit have freeze protection I'm in Texas and weather does not get to bad but this year it has been below freezing we have cold water coming out but no hot water flow are the pipes frozen are do we need to do something to units we have two tankless systems
@6251steve3 жыл бұрын
The units have freeze protection down to minus 30 degree's F ( inside unit NOT connected piping plumber installs ) but it wont work during power outages which became a big problem in Texas last winter where many froze and cracked.

This was a great presentation. It was the ONLY information that let me know exactly how the leaksense and leakguard worked. It was also the only information that helped me figure out why from initial power on I was getting constant false positive leak detects. The manual says NOTHING about requiring a drain pan for my particular model. I can only assume the red perimeter leak sense rope is picking up moisture from the concrete slab. This is not cool because now I will have to drain and disconnect the unit just to install a pan which I'm not even sure will solve the issue.
