if your closer to the horse you get less of a kick. I was going behind a horse on top of my own and that other horse kicked out . thankfully I was very close and it only knocked me down. If your at the end of a kick you can die.. we had a little girl die in our riding club from a pony they bought her. She was 9 and the colt was 6 months. The colt was running and playing and ran by her kicking out and hit her directly in the chest killing her instantly. . Stupid parents buying a young colt for such a young child then saying don't go out to it. Well they got it for her so in her mind it was ok. We had a funeral on horseback for the little girl..
