My question is: why do we think Australian's seem to have no desire to protect our rights to freedom of speech and expression yet seem to have an insatiable desire for controls of speech. It certainly feels like we are divided against ourselves by politicians and the corporate media landscape. When will we be united?

I don’t even have super now but when I did I only had $10,000 which took me 6 years of working to earn and when Covid hit I decided I wanted to be debt free if I’m going to be unemployed made redundant from my job, if Covid didn’t happen I’d probably be still working in my previous job now and paying off my loan and would still have my super, so while on one hand I can understand where they’re coming from the freedom to choose but there’s probably other people like me who can’t afford to buy a home let alone enough money in their super to buy one, I think the liberals idea to use super is dismissive of the fact most Aussies can’t afford to buy a home right now.

Government is supposed to represent the people's interests, which includes protecting the people against the massive power imbalances between corporations and individuals. But corporations now hold more power than governments. We need to figure out a plausible way to get big money out of politics.

This guys response is dubious when you review house price increase in 20-21, they began at 4.5% increase to Sep 20, and then 16.8 % increase by Jun 21. The data doesn’t support his paper thin theory.

The funny thing is if we made housing affordable for people buying in those people that brought in would want house prices to rise in order to get equity and spend it on a new car or holiday or maybe heaven forbid an investment property. People have to realise that owning a house is a privilege that need's a lot of hard work that most people don't want to put in, that's why you have owners and renter's in society.

Housing and renting have long been political issues and as such will never be resolved. Each political party will say they have the answers so vote for us, since 1989, neither side has done anything to fix the issue. Making matters worse is the fake news media like Skynews who just inflame the issues. Q and A highlight the issue and then leave you out in the cold. But at least they let you make up your own mind.

I am 46 now and have gotten to the age where my radio in the car is tuned to ABC news radio. I listen to question time on the way home from work. It annoys me that politicians will too often use important issues to score points over their opposing numbers than making any substantial effort to improve things for the people who voted them in or alternatively out. Politicians are mostly self serving slime. I predict the rise of independents will continue to the detriment of the big 2

Or we could actually stop using housing like the stock market because it's a basic human right. We have 10s of thousands of empty homes or very rarely used AirBnbs. 🤔😒

Mr. Chandler-Mathers is a prime example of Dunning-Kruger effect. Stating the obvious that we need to build homes - brilliant! I live in state run social housing and boundaries are almost non-existent. Subletting is rampant Meth is everywhere The police treat everyone as though they're criminals except the criminals I feel sorry for the neighbours in private homes having to tolerate my fellow residents I'm ashamed and embarrassed to say I live in Housing Dept Instead of evicting antisocial tenants, they relocate the victims thereby using up housing stock that could give a family a home I had to relocate to escape a crazed methhead as did two other households in the same complex. I left my former home cleaner than I found it and had had everything fixed. It was ready to move straight in to and was empty for six months whilst I had to take up a place that was also empty for some time. Crack down on subletting and evict troublesome tenants and word of mouth will bring back order! But you won't hear the Greens saying we need a moritorium on immigration to ease demand. Elitists love exotic folk not aussies.

Some rentals need to always be pet free. Why? Because some are allergic to pets -- no matter how good you clean it. Pet dander goes everywhere!

I would think that although Superannuation is not free money, if many people shift money from superannuation to the housing market that currently has low stock and a supply problem it will increase house prices, making the situation worse.

This seems to ignore the psychology of people looking to buy their home in a hot market. Fear of missing out is pressuring people to stretch to their limit. If you increase that limit the amount they offer increases. Seems obvious prices will increase.
@h34633

Yes you are right. Emotions move markets in a massive way and in the current environment allowing people to use their super will contribute to higher prices.

She flat our refuses to even consider cap or freeze rents in any way.. That is the most important thing, and would help reduce inflation due to greedy landlords.

Is it ok to also freeze interest rates, council rates and insurance? And all the other costs associated with having property?
@--Nath--
@--Nath-- 27 күн бұрын
@hughanderson2451 many council rates are tied/capped to CPI or equivalent, land tax gets averaged out/can be challenged. If a renter gets a rent rise, perhaps if the landlord had to justify it with real increase in expenses (which is unlikely because most landlords don't do any maintenance). If the rental property is in worse state than when moved in: the rent should drop.
