I loved this hike so much! Cool to see your version of the trip ❤ Here’s mine for comparison: kzbin.info/www/bejne/d5SQfn18f9h_qsUsi=-U8w1RmMA9MunK1i Took me and my friend about 7 hours!! We ended up walking in the dark on the second day! Love Otira so much…

That brown Huxley Forks Hut is definitely a complete replacement of the 1970 edition. I stayed in the white DoC rangers' hut when it was just new in the mid 2000s and the old HFH next door was worn out. Good to see the upgrade; thanks DoC.

Cozy hut. Eleven hour sleep! You lucky bugger, lol. Some great shots here, awesome place, such clear water. Wish I lived down there, you don't really get many alpine views like that up here in the North Island, except maybe places like the National Park and Ruahine Range.

Hunts Creek hut is a great spot, Bummer DOC doesn't have the funding to maintain the track. The section from the saddle to hut is on my list for a recut, although its a long list... Honora Renwick and Frank King recently trimmed up the route from the creek close to the saddle to Kelly range, a few poles were added too. I'm guessing the fresh work you saw was theirs. Keep the vids coming.

Ha! I had the same situation in July 2023, where I intended to get to Top Tuke Hut and then return. I camped at Truran Pass for the night in the rain, then slipped on an old flax blade the next morning and cracked a rib. Heavy rain, and I arrived at Dickie Spur Hut soaked. Sat out the unforecast bad weather for two nights, then staggered back down the hill. There are worse places on the Coast to be confined, but I'm sure you noticed that the bunks are too close together, and it's hard to get comfortable. 4º in an unheated hut didn't allow for drying out. As you noted, those hills are on quite the slope.
@travisabraham8101
@travisabraham8101 6 ай бұрын
Thanks for commenting! Sounds like you had a very similar issue. Those bunks drove us crazy as we couldn’t sit up properly! It hasn’t put me off tho, planning a return trip to Ivory Lake hopefully before winter kicks in 👍

Good effort. Best choice - Nature Sounds. Great choice - NO stupid loud horrible overpowering cheap or FREE unsuitable idiotic musickness audio chosen by a deaf nut. Bad - finger pointing in screen = gross / Hand waving - why do this ? Use zoom. Very bad = snot hole view + talking down to watchers - repulsive. Consider each shot + Do more.

@@chrisj8764 you did ? good. Effort is never put down. If mug shot is most of the videography then camera down is not a good look up the snout with a tired arm on the end of a stick. - Another enthusiastic amateur script mistake is pointing digit in screen. That's gross. The camera does the pointing, that's the point of it. As is no dead cat on mic.
