Pete and Everett constantly are in disagreement and argue, but then seeing him intently making sure Everett gets the right hair jelly in the scene, makes me see the true friendship between them despite that. It made me realise this time watching that I always thought the treasure was the song, but now I realise that the treasure was their true friendship. Only friends who truly knew echother in and out make a combined song like that on the fly.

Just a reminder, this song was written and performed by the Kossoy Sisters, who released it 50 years prior to this film. They did not receive any royalties.

I need to listen to this one more. Right now, I prefer the “closer” harmony of the Alison Krause version, where the harmony voice stays more on the dominant during the chorus, rather than ascending to the octave.

The version in the film was not sung by Alison Krauss and Gillian Welch but by the Kossoy Sisters.

I love how they weren't becoming famous by the second because of their song, and they didn't even know it.

I wish this version was on the soundtrack. Actually, I feel like more than one song in the movie itself is better than its counterpart. Big Rock Candy Mountain had a nice little fiddle accompaniment there.

These are the Kossoy Sisters- from the 50's- when twins or siblings singing was popular (think Everly Brothers, Patience & Prudence, &c.). That's Erik Darling on the Banjo, too (of Walk Right In fame- the Rooftop Singers). In the movie, at 1:43 is Gillian Welch- one of the singers on the soundtrack: another heavenly voice.

0:29 Considering this all occured in the year 1937 in rural Mississippi during the Great Depression and that single $1 bill (still on the Gold Standard at this point in history) is worth $20 in today's money? I'd like to imagine that the person who made the apple(?) pie came back to a very pleasant surprise under that rock on the windowsill. :-) Grocery money for a week!

I want to live in this part of the movie. I know it’s supposed to be the Great Depression and not fun, but it just looks like such a simpler time. I’ve always been enthralled with this part of our country’s history and the birth of the stereotypical American hobo.
