To save a lot of work just take a long flat screwdriver and push the fuel filter boot to the left off the bracket and lift up the filter. No need to do all that extra work from the side cover.

Bilitools 60-80 mm 1/2" ratchet oil filter remover. Best 20 bucks I ever spent. This tool will last a lifetime too. I used a belt my whole life with no issues. This time the buckle snapped in half. I put this tool on and the filter came off with very little pressure. They sell a kit also 60-80 and 80- 100 mm.for 36 bucks. It's a no-brainer if you do your own oil changes. Your grandma can use it on pickle jars too.

I mounted my GoPro camera in the rear of my trunk on my Venture on the antenna mount. I never heard popping when decelerating until I did that with the microphone. I can’t believe how much burbling and popping there is. But I can’t hear it when riding because I wear a full face helmet with earplugs for the past three decades. So I’m going to leave it as is..my RS Venture 2008 has the standard factory unmodified exhaust system.. If I could hear it popping and burbling when downshifting and using the engine compression to slow me down, then I would do this mod, but I can’t hear it…

Thank you for the video. I have the identical light bar on my 2000 RSV. Rust had got the better of it and I had to either replace it or attempt a restoration of it. I like the look of this stock light bar setup. I searched for a new light bar and couldn't find the same one as l have I decided to look at aftermarket and I didn't see anything l really liked. Still looking. I looked at several websites to find a diagram of the passing light disassembly and none have it. They only show the signal light bar exploded view. In your searches have you ever come across this diagram. Yamaha must have discontinued this particular passing light kit. I wonder if it was a dealer installed item when new or a Yamaha add on accessory you could buy later. Thanks great job.

I swapped the OEM slip ons with Harley Road King pipes. I was getting some back firing and popping when decelerating and gearing down. This solved the problem. Thanks for the video, very helpful.
@XxsteamerxX
@XxsteamerxX 4 ай бұрын
I am curious when you did the swap, did you do any jetting? Just wanted to know if you jetted yours and if so, what changes did you make? I ask because I installed Monster Ovals and K&N filters (with airbox end covers removed mod) and since have had to run with 1/4 - 1/2 choke with no other issues until my carbs finally started leaking due to old seals. So a couple weekends ago, I cleaned and rebuilt my carbs with new seals, and I did install the jet kit I bought back when I bought the mufflers. Bumped up from 15 to 20 on the pilot jets, and staggered main jets on front and rear carbs up one size to 125 and 127.5 respectively. Also replaced fuel pump and filter at that time. She fired right up at 3 1/4 turns out on the pilot screws and ran strong for 1 day with pops and backfires with flames on deceleration. Finished the initial maintenance around midnight. Next morning took her to the shop for an inspection and started up, and came home no problem. But the next day I tried to ride to work but she wouldn't run once warm, just cranked and cranked or caught for a short bit but shut down on rough idle. I tried several micro adjustments on the pilot screw and idle speed but nothing worked. Replaced old battery and plugs (upgraded to iridium). Can't solve the equation of proper air/fuel mix. I did note that the fuel pump doesn't seem to be engaging even after I drained the float bowels once or twice. I may need to put the original one back in. I decided to order some 17.5 pilot jets to see if I can get it dialed in better. Or if 22.5 might be better, since 3-1/4 to 3-1/2 seems to be the only point where it runs at all. But adding choke is worse at that level so I think I might be rich, but when I turn them in even to 3 turns it won't start, thus the 17.5 decision. Any input by any of the OG gurus would be appreciated.

Hard to reach. Instead of plugging the hole in that box in the front, it may be easier to remove that box (two Allen bolts under left foot floor board) and then just plug the line and leave it hanging.. Or plug the box while you have it off the bike and reinstall to be sneaky.

@RotorKev
@RotorKev 2 жыл бұрын
Hey Asphalt, 25-27 MPG is definitely low. Mid 30s to mid 40s is around what most RSV riders report, depending on riding habits etc. you said the carbs were rebuilt, did they get properly synced, idle set, pilot jets properly set? I would check those items first, and check your fuel filter. You can also try searching venturerider.org, lots of knowledge on that site.

What is your plastic stock filter getting soft ??I have a Moto Guzzi norge, The online owners club reports methanol in the gasoline attacks the plastic of some filters, like the ones on my Norge. The filter was a bit mushy/soft. They gave a part number of a NAPA metal filter that is unaffected by methanol. That filter is much larger than the one on my royal star venture, which is fuel injected, and mounted inside the fuel tank with the fuel pump, as bad as it sounds it was very easy to change the filter.. A little sidenote, I had a GL 1800 Goldwing that I did a major service on. Air filter which took five hours, and I am an ex-mechanic and I am not slow. I upgraded the suspension but changing the fork springs and rear shock spring, they took two days. You have to remove everything including the fuel tank which is behind the engine, in front of the rear wheel just to get to the top bolt of the shock.. But one note about the GL 1800 fuel filter. There isn’t one. They have no fuel filter on the Goldwing GL 1800. No wonder I couldn’t find it, or any literature or any articles on the Internet
@RotorKev
@RotorKev 2 жыл бұрын
The old filter wasn't mushy, but it was pretty gunked up. When I bought the RSV, I was originally looking for a gold wing, but couldn't find anything in my budget range. I'm glad I ended up with the venture instead.
@Jodyrides
@Jodyrides 2 жыл бұрын
@@RotorKev Gold wings are absolutely perfect. They do everything perfectly. They have reverse, they have a center stand, they are fuel injected, there are millions of aftermarket trinkets you can adorn them with.. they are absolutely the smoothest motorcycle out there. They never break down…But……. they have no soul, no personality. It’s like owning a toaster.. like dating Jessica Simpson. She has all the equipment and looks but the mind of a 60s flower child.. I found My Goldwing to be boring, it just didn’t look or sound or feel like a motorcycle I wanted to ride..wings are quite a gas hog. 33 miles to the gallon. I have had three ventures and all of them got around 45 to 48 miles to the gallon. That adds up with todays fuel prices..if you like to do your own maintenance,you can work on a venture yourself, you don’t have to marry the dealer like you have to with todays BMWs( had a k1300LT.. my first and last BMW…I will never go out on that limb again- dont get me started on all the flaws that machine had).. I could go on and on about how perfect gold wings are and how much they appear to be better than the ventures, but what does better mean? I know from personal experience that the ventures are much much easier to work on. The ride is roomier & plusher on a venture.. ventures are just as reliable. They look like a motorcycle.. they feel like a motorcycle..not a space ship.. There are people that have to have the latest self parking Lexus. Then there are those of us that would Prefer a loaded 1959 Cadillac convertible..
