3/8", it's marked on the pattern. Your results will depend on the fabrics you source, plan to make two so that you can make adjustments.

I'm honestly so thankful to have found your binder pattern and these videos you've made. Your instructions are so clear and helpful! It's a little difficult to get the required fabrics in my country but I'm looking forward to trying to make my own binder (and some for my friends and my community) in future. Thank you once again! I really appreciate it.

Thank you for this tutorial. It's a life saver. Since I'm making a custom binder now anyway I'd like to ask you a question please: How could I accomodate for wide shoulders? Mine have always been wider than average for an AFAB person and testosterone didn't exactly make them smaller - which is great for me obviously - but it makes wearing and especially putting on and taking off binders less comfortable. I don't mind experimenting with the cut.
@ureshiidesign
@ureshiidesign 4 ай бұрын
My shoulder situation is also broad for an afab person and I wear the pattern as is. I would recommend making one and deciding on adjustments to your second iteration. You may want to deepen the back of neck and, if your chest is smaller, dropping the underarm 3/4" or so. 🤞🫶

i don't have access to power mesh where i live. Is it possible to use another stretch fabric for the interlining, and then a non stretch for the stabilizing layers?
@ureshiidesign
@ureshiidesign 5 ай бұрын
For the stabilizing layers you will need something with 4 way stretch that is greater in one direction. I chose the power mesh because it's breathable. Could you order some? The pattern is designed for stretchy fabrics, I cannot predict the fit in a non-stretchy fabric or even your ability to put it on ❤️

I love you i stared to look arround patterning chest binders since in my country there are no manufactures and international shipping cost are quite expensive and your pattern has given me a huge starting point, i may modify it based on my more humid and hot weather but the pattern and construction instructions have been insanely helpful

Hiii!!!! Im kinda pissed i only got arround making this binder after getting top surgery, its so comfy and well fitting, i did use a really soft cotton-spandex jersey and opted for a woven fabric cut on the bias for the front panel based on binders ive made in the past, the power mesh i used was also not as "strong" so i didnt need to modify the size of the back pannel. Personaly as someone who used to use binders daily, while the nonstrech pannel may seem counterintuitive for confort, the solid layer of fabric helps crate a flatter apearence without it needing to be as compresing, it kind of creates a similar effect to a "false bottom" on a drawer. Your assembling method also was SO good it left it looking so clean even tho im using a domestic sewing machine, i do recomend using a "square" stitch if available on ones sewing machine Made it for a friend ^_^

Is this possible to make if my machine lacks the overlock option?
@ureshiidesign
@ureshiidesign 10 ай бұрын
Yes, you should use a zigzag stitch for all steps. You can do some testing to find the right width and length that won’t pop when you stretch the fabric. It might be best to use a ‘sharp’ or microtex needle to avoid skipping stitches.

@ureshiidesign 2 жыл бұрын
The fabrics we use are a 66% bamboo / 28% cotton / 6% spandex jersey (Weight: 200 gsm / 5.9 oz.sq yd) You could use other rayon/spandex fabrics such as 95% bamboo 5% spandex in a similar weight for similar results. The second fabric is a "power mesh" that is not super powerful. The one we are using is 83% Nylon / 17% Spandex. (Weight: 165 gsm / 4.9 oz.sq yd) It has some drape and significantly more stretch in one direction. It is not as stiff as what is seen in shapewear, more like something that would be used to put sheer panels in leggings or tops.

Would you recommend using a walking foot if I'm just doing to do this with only a sewing machine?
@ureshiidesign
@ureshiidesign 2 жыл бұрын
I used a walking foot during initial pattern development because we wanted the pattern to be sewable with a sewing machine. It didn’t make a huge difference with my little brother machine, but it might depend on your machine. I like to backstitch to anchor, and I was frustrated not being able to reliably backstitch without breaking a needle. So I would say try it if you have it, but if you don’t, seam test before you order one. If you find you need it and want to backstitch you can turn your work 🙃 Good luck 🤞🤞

Thank you for making this video ❤️ And i have a question what if the mesh i found at the store was more stretchy or its holes were bigger ? Would it work And how can i know the sizing i need
@ureshiidesign
@ureshiidesign 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Rami, I can’t really say how it will go. If you have enough to make one to test that would be ideal. Then you could decide whether it would help to size down or double up on the stable layer. I hope it goes well 🤞❤️ The sizing is based on your chest measure. (sorry it is in inches, re-drafting a more inclusive version now) Size of the final garment will depend on fabrics and preferences, so you may need to adjust, but this pattern gives you a starting point 😊

Is there a way to make an extra-super-compression binder? What tools would I need?
@ureshiidesign
@ureshiidesign 2 жыл бұрын
I would say to try this one first, you want to be as safe as possible, and I find this one pretty intense to wear throughout a whole day. If you decide you need something more, maybe look into the principles of corsetry, but don’t make the usual accommodations for the chest.

@ureshiidesign

Mine binds quite well and I have generally good feedback. Your results will depend on your sizing decisions and the materials you source. If you are tall and have a large chest, we suggest lengthening all layers including the stable layers by 2” or so. There is a try-on at the end of this video sports bra v. binder vm.tiktok.com/ZMNNmYAcb/?k=1 And in this video - all of our chest taming options vm.tiktok.com/ZMNNmmBRb/?k=1 Hope this helps 😊

The sizing is a chest measurement in inches, but it is just a starting point, preferences and available fabrics will dictate whether you go up or down a size. There is more information & written instructions in the blog post. I hope to add cm notation soon

@ureshiidesign
@ureshiidesign 2 жыл бұрын
I think you absolutely can. Take it one step at a time. Edit the neckline. You may want to keep the length on your first try and not add an underbust band. It’s doable, but slightly more difficult to add a zipper after adding the underbust band. Then you can decide on length based on your experience. You can email if you get stuck [email protected]
